Agree. Op, is still eating whatever during her window, so that’s not going to work. You still need to be in a calorie deficit even with IF. I have been doing IF for 2 years, with only a 4 hour window, if I gorge on food during my four hours, guess what? I see it on the scale. |
OP here. It’s going ok so far. I’m hungry mid to late morning but then find I’m getting full more quickly when I do break the fast at noon (I stop eating by 8). I think even though I’m not restricting my food from 12-8 I am going to lose some weight just because I am losing one meal a day, and all evening snacking. I am not gorging myself or anything during my eating window, but I know it’s gotta be good for me at some level (autophagy?) or in some small way in terms of my weight. |
The current theories re: authophagy indicate that you need a longer fasting window to get there. An 8 hour window won’t do it. And it would be better to have the shorter window earlier in the day. Can you do breakfast and lunch, then stop? To flatten my tummy before events, I’ve done OMAD (one meal a day, 23 hours of fast). It works great and after a week or so, I wasn’t even hungry outside of my window. To be sure, I didn’t gorge myself and worked to make that one meal count, nutrition-wise, with good protein and some supplements. OMAD would be a good way to kick-start your serious weight loss journey and eradicate cravings from the start. You could OMAD for two weeks or a month, then transition to a 4 hour window beginning with breakfast. |
This sounds great for you - maybe not quite right for me yet! I fast for 16 hours a day (not 8)... not sure about the math here. I have four kids and I can skip breakfast w/o anyone noticing, but I don't want to model dieting/restricted eating for them, so I want to be present for at least 2 of the 3 meals we eat together. I don’t know why I feel compelled to update. Flatter stomach for sure. Eating less every day for sure. Don’t have a scale so I don’t know about my weight. Pants maybe fit a liiiittle better? Not starving quite so much by late morning. Definitely feel like I’m not getting the sugar spike or whatever during my 8 hour window of eating. I’m just not as hungry I feel like during that time… Overall, I am glad I’m trying it. |

You are not dieting at all. You are just imagining what you will eat in that short period and you will fail at losing weight BCS skipping breakfast is pointless if you just add all the calories from breakfast to your lunch and dinner. |
