intermittent fasting - day 2

Anonymous
I decided to try this and it's going okay. I fast overnight and until noon. I don't miss breakfast too much, since I'm drinking coffee ...

I am noticing that eating 'feels' different during my 8 hours. Google let me down - does your body process the food differently if you're fasting? something with insulin or something? Also -I'm finding that I want to eat a lot (not hungry though) during my 8 hours, thinking, uh oh, 7 pm is coming! but I'm not really hungry. So bizarre.

I've never dieted before in my life. I'm a 6 feet tall woman and have always been slim, but then I went through menopause and gained 20 pounds with no change at all in my food intake or exercise regime (3 days a week one hour long high intensity boot camp style workout). I want my pants to fit again, so I'm trying this diet my husband's doctor recommended to him (when he said casually that he'd like to lose 10 pounds). I like that I can eat whatever I want and also drink alcohol.

Wish me luck, dcum.

Well you can't eat whatever you want and have booze.

Ehh, I always get a touch of IBS when I do IF. Not enough to stop. But just enough to make early AM yoga inconvenient.

I had to stop IF because of IBS too. Messed with my stomach too much

For those who have tried IF, what guidelines did you follow? Is there a specific book/website you recommend?

You realize that intermittent fasting has been shown to make no difference?

Like all diets, it works like magic for some people and not at all for others.

OP, if you eat like a pig to make up for the window limitations and also drink alcohol during the 8 hours, you aren’t going to lose weight.

If I want to flatten my stomach before a beach vacation, I do IF with keto, which works well. It would not work if I ate whatever I wanted (plus extra) and drank during the window.

I think most people start put this way with IF while their body and mind adjust to the limitations. Don’t count calories for now, but in a week or two when IF is a normal habit, start tracking your food and see how many calories, fat, protein and carbs you are taking in. Adjust as needed to attain your goals. Good luck!

Thanks. I figure it’s a win just because I am not eating all through the day. Not ready to do some big change to what I am eating. Esp at the start of this new routine. It would make me feel deprived. I believe I also read that there are benefits beyond weight loss to fasting? And I wonder why it affects some people’s bowels!

This is interesting. I wonder why this is. I assumed IBS was related to what you ate, not when you ate.

You realize you have no idea what you're talking about?

IF or "time restricted eating", if done correctly, makes a big difference - in the positive direction. The operative word here is "correctly". That means 14-16 hours of true fasting. That means eating clean during your eating window - plenty of protein + vegetables. That means no more trips to the kitchen after 6-7pm.

I mean, it’s day 2. Nothing has happened except a skipped meal (perhaps 2). No, you are not processing food differently.

OP, you’re on the second day….give it more time.

I really like IF but I tended to eat that way anyway so it wasn’t that big of a deal for me.

Are you thinking about Autophagy? Actually a really great thing, especially if you have cancer in your family history.
