At the very least they should've brought a BCBA into the classroom to observe, collect data, and do a FBA/ BIP.

these teachers sound like idiots. the response to this is and FBA and more restrictive placement. not to breach a student’s privacy, no matter how you feel the school is responding.

This is a severely disabled non verbal elementary student we are talking about. This teacher is unhinged and has an agenda. I believe she wanted to see deputies sent in to school to arrest this child. Her language wrt to this child shows she is completely ignorant about special ed and non verbal disabled children. She should NEVER be around special ed children. I can't confirm that this woman is actually a special ed teacher. She wanted CPS called on the family. LCPS tried to give her additional training but she has a political agenda and is using this child to get her face on TV. They have tried to get her to stop violating this child's privacy and she is having nothing of it.

She is disgusting and ignorant.

The teachers had social media handlers in place before they went to FOX news with this bs. The child should have been removed from her class immediately.

The kid has a behavior plan that the teacher chooses to ignore. She isn't following the processes. She wants to be on tv so she can cry that she was sexually assaulted. I'm surprised she didn't try to insinuate the child is trans. I'm waiting for that.

Wow. This is terrifying. My DS (prior to his diagnosis) encountered a teacher's aide who seemed to want to call the police when he was THREE years old. Most special ed teachers really want to do the right thing (even if they aren't supported or even not properly trained.) But there are definitely some that have something wrong with them.

I have no doubt that it is a very hard job, and that teaching disabled kids entails more physical risk than many can handle. But response to this situation should be to advocate for the CHILD to get better support. Not to accuse a non-verbal child of sexual assault.

the school says they have a BIP and the behaviors stopped when the child’s placement changed.

I have no illusions about how well schools address behavioral problems. but in my experience, teachers often make it much worse by not implementing the BIP.

Sometimes a BIP is so difficult to implement it isn't possible. Sometimes sped "teams" consist of people (the school psych, the school social worker, the sped teacher who only works with 1-3 kids at a time) who have not had to deal with physically aggressive kids, alone, in a classroom of 20-30, with no support and the things they suggest for the BIP are so stupid. And they don't listen to the classroom teacher or they think we are being lazy. Like, dude, I want this kid to succeed just as much as you do, if not more, but often that means support in the form of another staff person in the room for that to happen. And that almost never happens. I'm so glad the teachers spoke up. I'm sick to death of hearing about colleagues being assaulted (in any way) by students. It is unacceptable. I was hit twice this year. I was very surprised that my typically amazing principal did nothing about this.

This is not what is going on in LCPS. What is going on is a group of crazy right wing nuts who are encouraging what this teacher did because they are trying to take over LCPS. This teacher refused to follow what needed to be done and instead is trying to get her 5 minutes of fame with her crazy right wing friends.

Exactly. Her language towards this child is outrageous and her handlers have been on social media now claiming she is going on Fox to help the child. It is a joke. They are contorting themselves and already trying to back track on her comments. She is unhinged.

Just read the complaint. She filed a Title IX complaint against a DISABLED CHILD. Truly outrageous. I have no doubt this is a difficult situation and that she may have needed a lot more support, but she clearly has some other agenda and should not be anywhere near special needs kids.

Sexual assault involves intent and I can’t see that it’s clear what happened here. I mean if a very low functioning 7 year old reaches out indiscriminately they could hit the butt and breast area depending on whether the adult is sitting or standing or bending over - particularly if they lack the ability to tell where their body is in space and have motor issues.

I think it’s hard to be a special Ed teacher. But I just can’t tell here with the information that’s been made public. Also there is no excuse for revealing private data on a student.

Does violence require intent? Whether a kid is groping or punching a teacher, it is unacceptable, even if the child has developmental challenges. You protect the child, but you also protect the wellbeing of the adults. If the child cannot help himself from hurting others (and groping women is hurting them), s/he must be in physical constraints or another environment where they do not violate others.

This happened repeatedly. It's not an accidental "indiscriminate" motor issue touch. Shame on you for excusing this kind of violation.

I know you. You were all over our the parent's FB page with this bull. This is part of the teacher's sm team who kept trying to say the teacher only wants what is best for the child but really they just want a headline all over the national news saying a teacher was assaulted in class.

The teachers involved are ignorant and disgusting but you are far worse. You know this is bullsh0t but here you are trying to further your sick agenda. This attempt to use a severely disabled student to further you sick agenda is beyond reproach. I hope you rot in hell with you Jan 6 terrorist buddies.

You seriously just advocated for physical restraints for a child who has not hurt anyone? Seriously? You are a sicko.

Yeah because nothing says "I want what's best for a child" like filing a sexual assault case against a non-verbal elementary school student!

No. This person was all over the pages for moms in Loudoun with this same bull. They don't know special ed at all but want to badly to say a teacher was sexually assaulted at school that they will do anything to get the headline.

The teacher gives away her motivation when she mades remarks at the school board meeting indicating her anger that the child was moved out of her classroom. Why would that upset her so much? Because she has no reason to cry to Fox news if the student isn't in her room. She wants the drama and attention.

It is unacceptable that this student remained in her class given her behavior.
