s/o - Is TJ verifying FARMS status for kids in the class of 2025?

if people keep mentioning this issue, TJ probably have to verify the 2025 class, which is what they supposed to do. I am expecting next year TJ will go back to the admission policy with correct valuation.

I think it's great they're going to remove all the cheaters. Biggest improvement in he schools history!

Highly doubtful many of them cheated anyway.

They weren’t in school then and everyone was distracted by heading back to classroom.

It's unfair. Maybe just let all students in 2025 and 2026 take a PSAT test to decide who can stay.

Those economically disadvantaged questions shouldn't be filled by students and parents. They should come directly from the school system. If anybody is willing to claim economically disadvantage status, they should also claim it with the school system. I couldn't believe this type of mess happen in US, the top 1 country in the world. It's really a shame.

In addition to economic disadvantage, TJ should also verify English language learning and special education while they're in the process of verifying school attendance, courses taken, and GPA. If they don't have the information available to them (e.g. for non-FCPS students), they can offer a way for families to provide the relevant documentation. None of the information used to make admissions decisions should be based solely on self-reporting.

As someone who has a child with an IEP since 1st grade, I can assure your that the schools has copious amounts of documentation. If there is one to thing FCPS Sped actually does take seriously, it’s confirming and documenting eligibility.

It's almost like they don't need an application

The school has info on FARMS status, IEP status, GPA, ranks so who is the top 1.5% at each school, coursework to get rigor.

The final piece have math teachers look at the lists and throw out obvious outliers who are and aren't being accepted, done.

That assumes there are actual competent people in Gatehouse though....

It is really easy for parents to provide IEPs/504 plans and school records will show a kid is an ELL. Parents know that they cannot lie about that because it is something that is easily verified. Parents choose to answer a question that they knew was directed at FARMs status in a way that is technically right with the hopes to get the benefit of a bump in score during a year when the documentation would not exist at the school. Now the school is asking for the documentation.

I doubt anyone's status is changed because of cheating but they could lose the point bump for being economically disadvantaged and hence see their status changed.

Maybe since offers were already made they will honor those but recalculate wait list #s and reorder that list.

We didn't receive the email ourselves, but based on what was posted here it says: "Reevaluation of your application may result in a change of admission decision". No reason they would, or should, refrain from unadmitting someone who was wrongly awarded the FARMS experience factor points and was unable to provide documentation.
