Would you accept if your nanny volunteered to work an extra half hour for free?

Tip? You mean annual bonus?

I would work in an extra day or two off paid when you can if possible.
Anonymous
Absolutely not. I cannot believe you are even asking this.

It’s not a bonus when she is essentially owed the money.

She isn’t owed the money if she refuses payment and it was her idea!

Nannies are adults and do have their own free will!

Believe it. NP here and a nanny. I do lots of stuff for my charges that I don’t bill for. If my charge is having a hard time with me leaving, I stay on my own dime. I do what’s best for my charges.

Yes.

You people act like your Nannies are children or mentally disabled! If a nanny wants to do more on her own dime, let her!!
Anonymous
You need to pay her or not accept her offer.
Anonymous
Is there an alternative motive?

Maybe she's trying to get in bonus points with you now by looking like shes going above and beyond with this free playtime with your kid , but down the road she'll ask for XYZ (extra long vacation, getting greedy about bonuses, gurst passes to your country club/pool (as an example)).

Yep, some here really crack me up.

OP, I think the nanny insisting that it's her own choice is as a pp mentioned, because if there are days she wants to leave on time or just doesn't want to stay later anymore, great and no biggie. I understand your concern about it being time and a half pay extra though and a possible legal issue later on, so you can tell the nanny nah, it's fine and just have her leave at the usual time too.
Anonymous
It’s fine, but do compensate her in some way.
Anonymous
"Sure, Nanny. But only stay late if you want to."

Then pay her.

If she protests, smile.

Repeat.

That’s a violation of the wage and your laws. An employee can’t offer to waive their rights and work for free. You are creating unnecessary risk for yourself.
