FCPS retroactively denying pay raises

Anonymous
I don't see what fcps is doing wrong here-they are (generously IMO) accepting the Idaho Fake University courses for what the school says they are worth.

There is no way to provide rigorous coursework for $50 a credit hour. What a joke.

Good to know that teachers are doing continuing ed at fake universities.

What do the current regulations say? If the school is accredited, this shouldn't be an issue.

If FCPS accepts credits or degrees from Liberty and U of Phoenix (and they do), they should certainly accept credits from this place. I think they just weren't expecting that so many people would be putting in for the +30 pay bump and now have to walk it back.

They are accepting credits from these schools. It’s just that FCPS is following the transcript key (provided by the university) that says that each credit is worth half of what the teachers think they are.

The transcript key says they are worth one graduate credit unless the state requires 30 hours, which Virginia does not.

This is what the transcript key says

"All professional development courses are graduate level, non-degree, semester credits. Each credit represents 15 clock hours or .5 semester hours (in states where semester hours require 30 contact hours) or 15 PDPs or 15 PDUs or 1.5 CEUs/15 OPI renewal units. They are transcribed as graduate level semester credits."

NThe classes only cost $50 a credit? How is that even possible? Do the professors work for free? Sounds scammy.

Everyone knows these online classes are BS. If we are paying more for teachers with higher education, that's because the expectation is those teachers will be stronger educators.

They shouldn't accept this BS from these fake schools. No one is becoming a better educator and learning valuable skills from a $50 per credit hour diploma mill.

I'd like to hear about the high quality and rigorous coursework offered by this fine institution of higher learning.

Just curious, how much is the pay difference for the +30?

The state vdoe regs say 15 hours minimum (which these are), so FCPS is reading the key wrong. It is accredited just like all the other crap credits they accept (looking at you, North Tier). This is no different than those courses, they are just cheaper, so teachers jumped on getting their +30. Perhaps if FCPS went back to providing some practical Academy courses, this wouldn’t be such a big deal.

What's the pay difference?

How does this university offer classes for basically free?

2-3,000 a year depending on the step.

Wait, teachers want a $2000 raise for paying $50 for a useless course? That’s crazy!
