Have any of you heard that FCPS is retroactively denying teachers additional salary requests for pay raises. One of my neighbors took some classes through Idaho State University to get a MA+30 pay raise. She was approved in January, but was notified today that those classes will only count as half credits instead of full credit. Her email said as of May 1st her salary was reduced to the original amount.
She had 20 semester credits through Idaho State, but the county is saying it will only count as 10 now. Apparently it's happening to lots of other teachers. Has anyone else heard about this. Seems like a crappy way to nitpick over teachers continuing their education. |
| Sure, this happened to your “neighbor.” Just say it happened to you. |

I haven’t heard of this happening to anyone. I’d need to know more about what exactly was approved in January and why the change in credits awarded. Is this an accredited institution?
Here is the regulation: https://go.boarddocs.com/vsba/fairfax/Board.nsf/files/B42QV26B13D0/$file/R4621..pdf |
| There's a college called Idaho State University? That sounds like a scam. |
+1. Doesn’t sound legit. |
| Maybe the reviewed the intensity of classes and decided it wasn't worth a full credit and the corresponding raise? |
| Its a diploma mill. |
| Try University of Idaho - Eastern Shore next time |
| I took online continuing education grad credits for recertification. My current district accepted them for +30. When I applied to FCPS, they did not. I can’t blame them. They were not nearly the rigor as my actual masters degree. |

It's happened to several teachers this week.

| Idaho State University is regionally accredited. |
“Several” teachers? I see one guy on Twitter. The letter of disapproval for the credits is pretty clear. Also, there’s nothing happening retroactively as you stated in your OP. This Twitter poster applied in April for a salary increase. It was not approved, and the letter quoted the Idaho University course key. I’m confused as to what this Twitter poster is complaining about. |
| I guess OP is “neighbors” with the Twitter poster. |
If you look at the letter posted by the FCPS teacher on Twitter, Idaho State deems each credit is 0.5 semester hours. So doesn’t that mean that Idaho State is the one that is saying the 20 semester credits your neighbor claimed to have is really only 10? |
| The Fairfax teacher group has lots of teachers talking about how they were retroactively denied. Some were approved in January/February. |
