My cousin was a trap baby 30 years ago, but to prevent a divorce, not initially trap into marriage; it worked then, not sure it would have worked with my uncle if the baby had been a girl.

What does trap baby mean? A baby trying to keep a partner in a marriage?

I know one situation where a husband sabotaged his wife’s BC but I don’t know if their marriage was already on the rocks— they are divorced and and she has a restraining order.

I know a couple of women who intentionally got pregnant knowing they would divorce but wanting children and unsure about their prospects for dating in their late 30s, but they definitely were not trying to keep the men….

I knew about ten when we were living in Eastern Europe for work. Most were the much younger local girlfriends of married expat men. Each time, he left his family for the new girlfriend and baby, or his wife left him and he settled for marrying the pregnant girlfriend. Very depressing.

We also knew multiple longtime expat men married to the women with whom they had cheated in previous posts.

The whole experience of seeing what men who would be considered ordinary at home do when they are suddenly faced with multiple opportunities to cheat with or upgrade to gorgeous younger women has made me a more cynical person.

An affair partner or girlfriend getting pregnant on purpose to get him to commit.

In a bad marriage to try to turn it around or prevent the constant “when are you going to work” for a SAHM whose kids are now in school and doesn’t want to work.

More often is the wife that starts cheating after they are married because he was a dork she used abs is looking to upgrade and ditch the older one.

I know one person who purposely got pregnant in order to keep/marry her boyfriend. They did get married, and went on to have two additional kids but their marriage isn’t great. Constant, violent fights. Not physical as far as I can tell, just verbally abusive towards each other - I’ve witnessed it. Feel really bad for the kids.

I’ve always said that getting pregnant is not a good enough reason to get married.

No, that is not the dynamic you encounter with state department divorces. Sorry, but no. It is depressing, but I think we knew ONE single female expat in a relationship with a local guy in Eastern Europe or China. For the most part, expat women were considered undesirable compared to the local women, who certainly did look after themselves and dress to the nines at all times.

Me. My mom thought it would “save their marriage”. They ended up getting divorced. I don’t know why she felt the need to tell me this…I would have been much better off not knowing.

I don’t know if it was for aure a trap baby but they got married, had the baby, had another baby and still together almost two decades later. Not sure it’s a very happy marriage but they each hold their own.

I have a friend who did it. She’s still married 6 years later with second kid. Don’t know if they’re happy.

My mom did it with second kid. It was the straw that broke the cakes back.

State department employees do not do this, they have a code of ethics.
