We have not seen the email. The allegations are from close to 20 years ago. The case could have been reported, the Teacher on adminstrative leave then, investigated, and dismissed. If the case was dismissed, the Teacher would be allowed to return to the classroom. They probably changed schools because of rumors and the like. The posts make it seem like this is not a new charge to be investigated but something old that is being resurfaced. |
Agree with all above but purportedly, email came to parents this week. |
The Accuser sent an email this week. The school said the case had been investigated and was closed. Perhaps the accuser has filed a civil suit or doesn’t agree with the lack of charges but that doesn’t mean that this isn’t an old case. |
| So the victim sent an email to all of the parents of Forestville and Franklin Sherman? |
| No matter who sent the email. Is this staff still in FS ? Does anyone know ? There are quite a few older teachers at Franklin Sherman specially working with the lower elementary classes. |
I think you’re not understanding that potentially someone is trying to stir up drama or revenge by sending this email. The person in question was already cleared years ago of any charges by law enforcement. There is no truth to this and likely the person responsible for the emails is being investigated. |
| I know the family and have seen the email. It involves a former student and teacher at Forestville Elementary who were there then (2002) and the teacher is now at Franklin Sherman Elementary School. After intensive therapy, the victim was brave enough to come forward in December 2021. The police thought it was credible enough to obtain a warrant, search the teacher's house, and interview him. They did not find anything and he denied the allegations. This is not surprising if it happened 20 years ago and the teacher has any sense of self-preservation. The police lost interest due to a lack of evidence and FCPS did nothing. The victim was frustrated that he was not taken seriously and that the teacher was allowed to continue to have access to young children. He sent the email this week to some parents and FCPS administration (3/20/22). FCPS pressured the police to close the case, which they did on Monday (3/20/22!) without further investigation. I am 100% sure the allegations are true. The victim, understandably, wants to hold the teacher accountable and ensure he is not able to do the same to others. The teacher should not be around children. PLEASE PRESSURE FCPS TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND GET THE GUY OUT OF SCHOOLS! |
| I’m very sorry to hear about your friends experience. I have to say that something is not adding up with how quickly the investigation closed. Our family unfortunately was part of a case involving a teacher, our child was not impacted but was interviewed multiple times by forensic investigators because they had contact with the same caretaker. It took a very very long time to resolve, and in this case the teacher was actually innocent… |
Was it something that had happened recently or 20 years ago? If it is something that happened recently, like in the last year, there are more people to interview and that memories are more fresh. A case that is reported that is 20 some years old will have fewer people to interview and less possibility for direct evidence to be looked for. If the PP is correct, the Police searched the Teachers house and looked for evidence. They interviewed the people in question. What they found didn't warrant charges. This isn't exactly unusual when it comes to this type of accusation that is 19 years old. I am not saying that it did or did not happen but the likelihood of evidence existing to press charges is probably pretty slim. |
| The male teacher in question still works at Franklin Sherman ? I don’t like this. |
I took a quick look at the directory for the school. Just going by names, it wasn't obvious to me who the accused is. Probably parents of children at the school have more knowledge of the staff at the school - but I have known two teachers who were accused and fired/transferred while I was in school, and I heard of two other teachers who were fired/transferred after I had graduated. This was in another state. I knew the students involved and I knew the teachers, and the accusations were inaccurate. I'm not inclined to come down on the teachers at a school based upon an email. From my personal experience. |
My younger brother attended Forestville during that time period. I would really like to know what is going on. |
Maybe ask your brother about his experiences there and see what he says. |
If the case has been closed by the police, there is literally no basis for removing the teacher. Irrespective of whether the allegations are true -- and I have no idea if they are or are not -- it sets the absolute wrong standard to suspend or terminate someone based on claims that have been investigated and found not to warrant charges. If more evidence is developed or discovered in the future, then action can be taken. But you cannot and should not punish someone based solely on an allegation. |
what is the mesage this gives to the children..keep your mouth shut because no one is going to believe you. |
