There’s this great Chana saag recipe that I make regularly. Can be vegan!

It does sound delicious. Can you tell us a little more about the smoked paprika sauce? |

OP get a Costco membership. 2 gallons of milk is $5-$6 in California. I have teens that go through a lot milk. I could pay $8 a gallon at the expensive market where we get higher end products or I could pay $3 a gallon at Costco. Eggs are very well priced at Costco too.
If you like chick peas, then fine enjoy them but drop the drama over $6 organic milk. You have other milk options. |
| You’re just being dramatic, OP. |
| Chickpeas rip my stomach to shreds. Be sure to buy Beano or multi digestive enzymes. |

If you can get a copy of World Vegetarian from the library, it has great recipes.
I know LA is huge, so this may not be useful, but this discount food place sounds amazing; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgUo5CRk-WY |

Around here, the farm milk is cheaper than organic, and that probably tastes closer to what you are used to. But once you're using it for cooking, do you really notice the difference?
On chickpeas, here are two I like, but one is not vegan: -- mix with canned tuna, chopped flat leaf parsley, olive oil, chopped tomatos, vinegar. -- saute chopped carrots, onion, and garlic in olive oil. Add can of rinsed chick peas and curry powder and a little salt. Sautee until warm through. Serve with rice or naan. You could also add chopped tomatos or diced from a can. -- Once upon a chef's homemade falafal recipe is really good. Deep frying is not particularly cheap, though, as you go through so much oil. In general, I don't think vegan is the cheapest way to eat -- any diet that is particularly restrictive is going to limit your options. The cheapest diet is to shop what's affordable, and then create your menu based on that. |

This is my fave, and you can sub lots of the ingredients for whatever you have on hand (goat cheese, rosemary, or parsley at the end, can use dried herbs etc). And I never saute the onions, just slice thin and bake

She is in LA the land of the dramatics. Oh no milk is expensive! You’ll survive, look at the people in Yemen, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Honduras, Venezuela, Nigeria, Haiti, Central African Republic, Uganda. They are all still alive. |

This is a great recipe. Tailor to your preferences.
https://cheerfulchoices.com/roasted-chickpea-couscous-bowls/ But honestly, if you just roast chickpeas in smoke paprika, thyme & a little sale - YUM |
Thank you, I really appreciate this!! I will try the TJ’s brand. Thank you also for the recipes! |
I’m in LA living off $37k while going to school full time to get my PhD and gas is $6.59. Congratulations that you don’t have to worry about the price of food. I know many Europeans and Canadians who can’t/won’t drink American milk. We don’t add hormones back home and the taste is really hard for me to drink. Maybe you don’t like mushrooms- is that dramatic? |
Aldi and Lidl are cheaper. |
