New poster here. I went to NCS and I never ever encountered drugs or smoking in the bathroom or anywhere in school buildings.

Not in the main buildings but it was definitely there in the smaller spaces and the gardens. I imagine it’s even easier now because vapes are easier to hide and harder to detect. As I said in another thread about drugs in private schools, the Close is not a magical bubble no matter how much parents wish it were.

Today my kid came back home saying that their going to be testing kids if they use drugs. Unbelievable. These issues are getting worse. Why parents who care can get together and open an investigation vaping, shoplifting ,graffiti and now drugs .

Is this Hardy? OP here. I talked with another parent yesterday who had also heard the same reports i did. Mainly chewables. My daughter's friend was also recently nearby when an administrator closed off a hallway/bathroom which smelled of pot. Staff was reportedly trying to find the kids that may have been smoking in the bathroom. I'm still hoping for a bit more confirmation, because these accounts all go back to the kids. They are reported to be eighth graders. I'm not surprised because the chewables are widely sold. You can even get them at Same-day health when you get yout COVID test (just be sure to keep them away from your eighth grader). Hardy is a great school and we are sending another child their next year. My eighth grader avoids the "popular" crowd where this is happening and is much more focussed on academics. She has really nice friends who are also focussed. As some have noted other schools could easily face similar problems and probably do, and the kids with the drugs are privileged kids.

Never encountered them/ heard about them being used at my ADW school. In the late 90s/early ‘00s.

I went to a magnet school in Europe, and only one kid smoked few cigarettes a day. She has quit since. Nobody smoked pot or they'd be in gulag.

Between the "chewables" and having the "dark web" on their computers, I wonder if it is possible to sound more out of touch than we currently do.

Oh, I definitely did back in those days. Smoking in the girls bathroom. Under the bleachers. The usual places.

I think it's tough to monitor the kids, as they don't have an adult around during working hours after school, and during the pandemic they had even less supervision. Where there is a pattern i think some of these parents are making an effort whereas some simply do not know. Are you saying the 7th graders are into this? The seventh grade parents i talked to thought it was only the eighth graders.

NP. I went to a very academically rigorous public magnet 25 years ago and I 100% encountered weed in 3 different widely known locations in the school.

NP. I went to Stuyvesant in the late 90s. Getting pot and LSD was so easy. I'm sure I could've gotten coke and MDMA if I tried.
