So you're an accountant? https://www.levels.fyi/company/Amazon/salaries/# |
Dev manager to director in 4 years? |
Fake |
| My spouse is in Finance at Amazon and very very happy with her experience, team and manager — and hours aren’t bad. Maybe 50 a week on average? So think it really depends. Sounds like a great opportunity for you! |
It’s not fake. I left Amazon. I got a little lucky yes, and probably not representative, but even the L7 job was close to half a million. Going from L5 to L7 is a big jump. Amazon on the resume makes it possible. Regardless, let’s say it is a lie for sake of argument, even so, surely people would agree that Amazon can be a huge accelerator. If it’s not $500K, $300K as the next job is shooting fish in a barrel. |
Yes, very unusual and I know Amazon to not skip steps like this so quickly. L9s are like VP of a big division within amazon as their executive group is at L11s. Something doesn't sound right here. |
Sorry, I meant I was L5 at Amazon. I left Amazon for an L7 role. I’m now L9, but not at Amazon. |
Yeah so you left Amazon in less than 4 years, probably 2. Are you at another FAANG or a startup? |
L5 is a mid-senior level engineer. To jump and skip 4 levels in 4 years is not possible even at Facebook. |
|
L7 at Amazon.
Your manager makes/breaks your experience. My team is great. And bullshit on PP going from L5 to L9 in four years. |
It is a completely different thing then. Please stop misrepresenting. An L9 at amazon is totally different than an L9 equivalent somewhere else. Amazon has these steps and scale for a reason. |
Good. What's your total compensation at L7 and are you planning to stay there after 4 years? |
Two years in. Comp target is $325k, waiting on revised numbers under the new salary plan. Based on today’s share price, I’ll make $400k this year. Not 100% sure what year 5+ bring but not running for the exits either. |
Wait how would it be without share price appreciation? |
PP back. When you start, they give you a comp target. That is now they decide how many shares to grant you for your initial four year cycle. For me, that target was $325k, split among the $160k base, RSUs and signing bonus. (Signing bonus ends at the end of year two.) In the intervening two years, the share price has gone up. So I’ll exceed my comp target. For calendar year, I’ll make $400k based on share price. (Pre stock split after market.) So the math said I should earn $325k this year. Market is up since original grant, so I’ll get $400k. |
