| So I got an offer at Amazon. I'm excited but also super worried about work/life balance. I'm not in tech, this is a more project management and strategy role supporting a department. It will involve some travel but seems reasonable. The people seemed pleasant enough and the money is a big jump for me. Any current Amazonians care to chime in with insight? Thanks. |
| It depends on the group. Some people are very happy and others are not. Your manager is the biggest determinant. |
|
I would take it. It will always look great to have Amazon on your resume, even if you're only there for a little while. Use it as a stepping stone if need be.
Agree that your manager is the biggest factor re: work happiness. Hard to judge that from an interview, so set your expectations accordingly! |
and apparently there is no shame in being there just for a little while. Lots of people don't last long but it still could be an interesting or great experience. |
+1 for being an interesting experience, whether it winds up being good or bad. It will be a great talking point in future interviews
|
| If it doesn’t work out you can leave. Companies love to hire ex-Amazonians |
|
+2 to take it.
Unless you are another very reputable high tech firm already, Amazon is like McKinsey, Bain or bcg in consulting or like Goldman, Merrill etc in banking. Your next job post Amazon will be $500k+ |
| Just don’t become an Amazon manager and think you can land somewhere else. Many companies actively avoid ex Amazon managers. |
| Op, what's your salary and are you an L5 or L6? |
LOL, that's not true. Who told you that. Do you know how many white collar jobs amazon have? Do you think everyone would get $500K+ jobs now? |
L6 $170K total comp Current salary is $105K |
| How many interviews did they put you through? |
1 recruiter call, 1 phone screen with hiring manager, 5 “loop” interviews. |
It is if you play your cards right. I also assume the OP is not coming here to ask about an L3 job. I was L5. Next job L7. Next L8. Now L9. I’m over $1M. Took 4 years from L5. It’s doable. Even if you cut my numbers in half. |
What role is that? Most people don't even last 4 years to vest their RSUs from their first job. This sounds very unusual |
