Now that CDC is not recommending masks in schools, will private schools lift their mandates?

Yes it is. Speak for yourself

Would someone who knows please clarify the DC situation- are private schools bound by the mayors order or not? At the start of the pandemic they were except from the social distance 6’ mandate. Still the case?

NP. Please not assume people that want to get rid of masks that aren’t scientifically proving to be needed are RWNJs. It’s thinking like that that will caring upon a red wave. Some of us Dems have logic and aren’t led by hysteria.

Our school said they were looking into mask optional but because the CDC had guidance to continue wearing masks they couldn’t immediately even after new law passed in Va. I am wondering what they will do now. Hoping they update and make school mask optional asap.

Nope. We will lift, but not when you say so. So just frogging stop already. No one cares what you think

It is not because you have logic or smarter than others. It is because you have had COVID in the Jan wave, so it is not in your interest to care others anymore. This explains the shift in the attitude wrt mask. This kind of hypocrisy is out of touch.

Everyone will have to lift next week. Nothing for the schools to hide behind anymore.

Private schools are bound by DC Health. Of course they haven't updated their guidance yet. As someone said elsewhere, DC was the only "state" that didn't go by CDC's 5-day isolation rule and instead changed it to 7 days of isolation. Schools like GDS never even updated their guidance to 7 days so anything is possible in this area.

I have never had COVID. My teen kid did during Delta though. We thankfully avoided it. But nice try.

Who's hiding? The schools are following guidance and have made changes to their policies as the guidance changes, and they will continue to do so.

What does being a particular political party supporter have to do with it? Either which way you vote?

The changes have not been consistent. This has been discussed ad nauseum. When Northam was Governor (taking VA) then everything was about what he dictated. With Younkin it is a flat out no until the state passed law to support what he said. There was a whole temper tantrum on that. Again read all the posts on this. I have watched as an outsider, and I don't like this. This feels very political and not scientific. I predict that even with the CDC news there will still be resistance. My kids are older and can deal with the masks but for little kids, if I was a little kid parent, I would be upset. The foggy glasses, the anxiety. For every kid who says no problem, there are five who have trouble with the masks. Time to support kids.

I don't want to get into the debate about whether a HS student should wear a mask.
As a parent who has a DC in PK4 -- what is frustrating is that the CDC is issuing this change without providing the access to vaccine for little kids. I get it, some will say the risk of death is small for kids. But hey 1000+ kids died and I watched my neighbor's otherwise healthy 3-yr old sent to hospital by ambulance on Christmas.
