Montgomery County Council -- at large?

Anonymous
This county is a shell of what it once was. They all need to go.

No one is stopping you from running! You don't have to ask permission from anyone to run for MoCo Council. STEP UP.

A lot of them are going. This thread is about with whom to replace them.

Only 1 At Large member is going and that is because they are being forced out by term limits.

Because people who live in other parts of the county have real jobs.

Goldberg runs his own rental management business and has to deal with all the issues that come with being a services-oriented small business owner. Not sure about the others.

He seems like a thoughtful and reasonable person, but I believe he literally lived 3 blocks away from Evan Glass and I’m also not voting for anyone until I hear their position on Thrive.

This probably means I should support him as racist in MoCo means you don’t hate white people.

I think I’m going to vote only for at-large candidates that live up-county. Things have got to change. Although I do like Albornoz personally.

Jawando lives in Ashton.

I don’t think that anyone who ran for the council living in Ashton with two kids in private school would be electable in this county. He now has the power of incumbency behind him but if that’s what his situation last time around he wouldn’t be on the council.

I wonder if carpet bagging TPSS to get elected is going to be a new thing now.

If you're looking to vote for people outside that area, Laurie-Ann Sayles is from Gaithersburg and Kellerman is from Poolesville, although I can't find much about her beyond that. Brandy Brooks is from Wheaton so kind of technically Silver Spring but not downtown.

If people want to vote for “justice” vote for the person from Poolesville. They have suffered severe divestment from the county and recently compiled a report documenting the lack of equality in the public investment they have received. They are so desperate that they have begged the county to build just one building that would include their new high school, public library, police and fire department. Can you imagine.

Beg to differ. No plans to build a fire department or police station. The fire department is fine right where it is (in Beallsville) and the police would get basically a break room and bathroom.

Is this supposed to be some type of gotcha? The police station being smaller than normal police stations is actually more evidence of how desperate they are.

Where is Friedson? Isn’t he supposed to represent these people or is he too busy trying to impress the TPSS crowd? This is what happens when inexperienced kids get elected.

The building will also include a co-located community center and a health center.

It’s pretty sad that the county has neglected this community so badly to the extent that they have documented that they live in a “services desert”. [/quote

Community center, health center, and new gym were ALL removed form Budget.

However with a lot of consistent pressure, new gym is back in the plan tentatively and there is some early discussions for a separate community center ]

For all local positions, everything is decided in Democratic primary.

Down county areas are over represented for multiple reasons. One is that they vote more down there the other is public financing which puts millions of county $ into the campaigns based on their individual donation totals. Down county puts more money and more people into these campaigns which increases the cash on hand to run campaigns.

If you want to have an impact on local elections it’s imperative that you promote voting and political engagement in rest of county and also register democrat.

There is a new organization www.lefttovote.org dedicated to all of this. Check it out and pass the word

Vote for Kellerman. It's high time upcounty gets a say. And whatever you do, do not vote for Jawando. He's a hypocritical ladder climber who thinks he knows what's good for MCPS even though he sends his kids to private.

Any information on Kellerman? I see nothing since a year or so ago Bethesda beat article announcing she’s running. Can’t even find campaign website.

If people want to vote for thoughtful, moderate and ethic candidates who are not already in the pocket of developers and who care about the county’s finances, they should vote for:

D2: Marilyn Balcombe

D4: Kate Stewart

D5: Daniel Koroma

D6: Omar Lazo

D7: Dawn Luedtke

A1: Gabe Albornoz

A2: Scott Goldberg

A3: Kim Kellerman

A4: Laurie-Anne Sayles
