Will APS teachers allow sick or quarantined kids to dial in?

You are not typical, unfortunately. My kid never got the hang of asynchronous, so at this point I expect live teaching for kids stuck at home. I can’t reteach material that we don’t have texts for. A random slide doesn’t cut it.

VDOE has already put out guidance for schools to provide meaningful remote learning options for kids in quarantine. I’m not sure it will happen right on Monday, though. I’m sorry your daughter has to quarantine and I hope she stays well.

Virginia really sucks. They won't let schools just go virtual when needed, but are making you all do this piecemeal class by class quarantine instead? Yet they insist that you teach in person AND provide meaningful instruction for the quarantined kids? If schools are open for in person instruction, then that's how teachers are providing instruction. If kids aren't in class, they just have to miss class. That's the way it always was in the past when kids were out for the flu or a bad cold, right?

Then you have not been reading the guidelines. I set up my camera and my students quarantining followed my
lessons. It was one way but at least they didn’t miss instruction. They emailed me assignments for feedback.

Thank you for this information!! Can you tell me more? My DD is a high schooler and will be quarantining on Monday and Tuesday. Should we email the teachers this weekend to ask them to turn on cameras and send us a link? Is that how this works?

it was that way at first, but then a number of teachers pushed back and bridget loft sent out a clarifying email saying we do not need to do that. thanks though!

Right! We just got an email from WL about an announcement. I thought it would surely be about this critical info. Nope. It’s a mock SAT. Where are the emails from the principals??!

YHS sent an email yesterday basically saying here is the weekly testing day (Friday), make sure everybody wears masks, extracurriculars are cancelled....that's it

What do you want from them? Principals and teachers are not at liberty to make their own COVID procedures. This is a school board issue.

They want to be able to blame teachers for any and all ills. Period.

I’m thinking you’re right. I expect emails from the principal of the school where my kid goes. Even if it’s only parroting what the “guidelines” are. Why so hush hush? Here we are 36 hours away from school starting and I don’t know whether my kid can dial in if she’s quarantining.

Have her email the teachers today to get ahead of it. She surely won’t be the only one out.

Dial in how? There’s no hybrid this year.

Parents: teachers were awful at hybrid 🤬
Also Parents: teachers won’t let my kid do hybrid 😡😤

If only they'd had any advance notice of this possibility and could have planned accordingly.
