Will APS teachers allow sick or quarantined kids to dial in?

Just found out our DD needs to quarantine for 10 days. Ughhhh. Will APS high schools (WL) allow her to dial in for school? I’m concerned about how much math instruction she’ll miss.

Durands email didn’t mention anything about this, so I assume not. They’d need a secure link through the APS IT department to do that right?

VDOE has already put out guidance for schools to provide meaningful remote learning options for kids in quarantine. I’m not sure it will happen right on Monday, though. I’m sorry your daughter has to quarantine and I hope she stays well.

Maybe she could have a friend in math set up a FaceTime call so you kid could see hear what was going on in class but not participate.

What have they done up to now for students who have to quarantine? We aren’t in APS, but if our students are “on pause” due to Covid the teacher either livestreams or records and shares (for LA and math).

Why does your daughter need to quarantine for 10 days? I thought none of the guidelines included 10 days.

DP
Isn't it 10 days if you test positive or if you are an unvaccinated close contact?

Not anymore… 5 days now, unless you’re still sick after that. I think.

Following… expecting to be in the same situation at W-L imminently. I think the kids who have an old vax and aren’t boosted need to quarantine longer. Not sure how long they have to wait after getting boosted for the shorter time
to apply. Among my many questions…

Ok. I'll have to check. I thought that was just the CDC's recommendation at this point.

If OP’s daughter is caught in the 12-15 age trap, she could be out that long. All 12-15s who received their vaccinations when they first started are no longer considered fully vaccinated under CDC guidelines and can’t follow the new rules. They are unboosted but more than six months past their second shot. . This should, change in a few weeks if they approve the 12-15 booster.

as an APS teacher, I have heard nothing of letting kids dial in. I dread having to revert back to hybrid - that was miserable and nobody could get the hang of it. at this point I'm just posting every single word I say and every assignment on Canvas and am going to be crazy flexible with assignments. I don't know what else I could do.

Concurrent is the worst. Maybe each school could have a virtual “study hall” for quarantine kids who need guidance. Wouldn’t be actual teaching but could he supervision for families who need it.

Does APS' policy match?

My DW teaches for FCPS. She said she turns on the camera and turns it off. That's it. She has had to do that for a couple of students this year.
