shrug... statistics back me up. Your backup is just anecdotes. But yes, MD does also have bad drivers. I'm originally from out west https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/virginia/virginia-drivers-among-worst-in-the-country-survey-says/65-6ed48360-aef9-4ec0-981a-ede9c85872d0
I find MD drivers super slow, and VA drivers to be inconsiderate. |
+1 I live in MD, and the VA drivers (tags say VA) are terrible. I always assume they don't know where they are going so I do give them some leeway. |
If you need to get acclimated to the road then pull over to get your bearings. Don't speed through DC neighborhoods, fail to stop BEHIND THE LINE at stop signs, ignore no turn on red etc. When MD drivers stop speeding through my neighborhood (FYI the speed limit is 20 mph on any road in DC unless otherwise posted), start stopping for pedestrians in crosswalks, and stop putting my kids at risk then maybe I will give them some grace. |
Yup, clearly a MD driver who doesn't know how to drive. The rule of thumb when making a left turn is to turn into to the lane closest to you. If there are 2 left turning lanes onto a 3 lane road, clearly the inside left turning lane's closest lane is the left most lane on the 3 lane road. The outside left turning lane can turn into the middle lane or the right most lane on the 3 lane road. Even when there are dotted lines on the road literally showing you how to do these turns, I almost get into accident with moronic MD drivers, because the inside turning lane doesn't want to wait in the line of cars in the left most lane on the 3 lane road, therefore they try to invade the middle lane and drive right over the dotted lines for lane turning. MD drivers are the worst. Not hard. Turn into the lane closest to you. |
Because their driver's license test is basically one question, and it is this: "Circle the item that most closely resembles a road. Option 1: a picture of a gravel path Option 2: a picture of a potato" Circle the correction option, and you are granted a Maryland driver's license. |

I drive around 270 and 66 in the DC area. I find the VA-licensed drivers on 66 swerve more dangerously than the MD-licensed drivers on 270. I cannot comment on any other region. |
She is wrong. You can’t take “either” lane. If somebody is turning right into what she calls the outside lane, she will be cutting that car off. |
You are wrong you can’t take the outside lane. |
LOL Aw, sound like little a**holes like mommy and daddy. So sweet! |
PP here, I wholeheartedly agree - I have very little patience for unsafe actions by bad drivers, especially when pedestrians and cyclists who stand very little chance of surviving being hit by a car are involved. I'm willing to bet that there are unsafe DC drivers speeding through your neighborhood as well as MD drivers. I'm also willing to bet the MD residents will complain about DC drivers speeding through their neighborhoods. My point is bad drivers are bad drivers, and it doesn't really help to generalize that all X are Y. Unfortunately we are fighting human nature and the divisive politics in our region are a prime example. |
Uh oh sounds like you’re a triggered dumba$$ from Maryland who can’t drive! I say this as a MD resident. |
Typically, if there are 2 left turn lanes at intersection, those lanes will get a dedicated left turn arrow, indicating when they have the right of way. If they have the right of way, oncoming traffic must yield to them before turning right on red. |
| I now live in MD, but I’m not from MD. There are plenty of terrible drivers in MD (they’re the most aggressive I’ve encountered, out of all the places I’ve lived), but they’re also predictable once you’ve been driving in MD for a bit, so it’s manageable. The funny thing is that on the rare occasions I drive in VA, there’s usually at least one car with VA plates that passes me going an insane speed (like 85+ mph). I wouldn’t say there’s as much of a difference between MD and VA drivers as people from VA like to claim. |
You’re missing the larger point: people in the leftmost left turn lane may only turn into the leftmost lane. They can’t drift into the middle lane. That’s what OP is talking about. Regardless of whether vehicles in the other turn lane (the rightmost of the two left turn lanes) turn into the middle lane or rightmost lane, the vehicles in the leftmost turn lane can only turn into the leftmost lane. |

I live in DC and the MD drivers are by far the worst. Running red lights and stop signs, driving wherever they want on the road without regard to lane markings, rarely use blinkers, love to tailgate. God help you if you end up in a traffic circle near one of them.
VA drivers are bad in their own way. They often don't seem to know where they're going or will drive 5 mph looking for a parking spot and when they find it, they can't parallel park. |
