Should we just stop having public school board meetings?

I’m all for banning folks from attending school board meetings. The complainers have made the environment unsafe for everyone (see LCPS) with their outbursts and attempts to subvert the accepted system.

The accepted system if for the board to advocate for the perspectives of the constituency, not advocate for their own political beliefs... Agree that unsafe actions aren't called for, but people are frustrated that they are being ignored after trying to follow the process.

Because you aren't the majority. The majority of the constituents in Loudoun agree with what the school board is doing and this is why they were voted in.

Have them on zoom and cut off mid behavers

If you make this opaque then more parents will lose trust in public education system. This trust is already eroding at high speed for many reasons. And it's not a "red" vs. "blue" issue any longer. Parents on both sides are concerned about the same things such as safety and quality of education. If you disallow them to voice their concerns, they will just start pulling their kids from schools in favor of alternatives. Then they are going to be angry for paying taxes for the schools they cannot use, so it will just backfire in a different way.

How much of a majority? If the percentage of pissed of parents is high enough, it will undoubtedly create problems for the "majority" down the line. Even if these disagreeable parents do nothing at all, but passively withdraw their kids from schools, it will still hit the majority down the line. If you lose enrollment schools get less funding, the "majority" won't enjoy this.

I've never been to one, I bet many people don't go, has this changed?

but it isn't happening. They whine that they are going to leave the public school system but they don't. It's all an act.

Sure. Let's allow congress and state and local legislatures to do the same. We'll be North Korea in a decade.

Um, because the boards conduct public business subject to public open meetings laws.

yes, they'd have to change the rules about meetings, but I don't blame the thought. Some folks can't seem to control themselves. I wouldn't want to be a BOE member with all the threats and low pay.

While there have been some over the top responses, can you really blame the parents? Some B's of E are making terrible decisions and harming kids. It's only natural for parents to want to protect their kids.

If they aren’t following procedures, are becoming belligerent and disrupting meetings then yes, I blame them.

It's actually the school boards who aren't following procedures. They are cutting people off and not allowing people to speak because they don't want to hear what parents have to say.

Can you give an example? Thanks

Well, let’s see, there was that whole closing school for over a year based on no scientific evidence thereby screwing moms and kids thing…..

No scientific evidence except for millions of dead people and every workplace of means shifting to work from home.

I am watching the news right now and not a single guest has appeared in the studio face to face with the anchor. Now, still in fall of 2021, they haven’t reverted back to 2019 protocols. Why is that, do you think ?

Exactly. It's shocking and frightening how many people on here think school boards don't need to be accountable or transparent.

Democracy dies in darkness.

Because to admit that these policies weren’t effective is politically untenable.
