So stop your crocodile tears.

They aren't in the Reed walkzone...so they might not end up at Reed.

Then I guess they are REALLY going to regret not moving to Williamsburg in the last go round!

Ignore the Westover-hating-troll. This character pops up anytime they think there is a chance to say something nasty about Westover. Obviously, they don't understand the area b/c 1) the Nottingham unit isn't close enough to Reed to be considered for moving and 2) it's not even in Westover. The vitriol the troll uses towards Westover is similar to that used by the McK troll who hates Nottingham, including conspiracy theories of neighborhood promises and involvement of politicians outside the SB. One might even wonder if it's the same person. It's amusing at times, but typically just tired and played. Please don't feed the troll.

They are in the second tier of the Reed walk zone, and much of it meets the criteria of the first tier, but it's a long (east/west) PU so it would be far for those on the eastern edge. In any event, it's an easy walk to Swanson as well, so it would be odd to send them to Williamsburg instead of the many closer units.

They are on a bus...and with all of that Westover traffic going to another school is a real possibility.

Of course alignment matters! I think pp pointed out that there was one planning unit last middle school adjustment that was misaligned (that wanted to be moved from kenmore to Swanson I believe, either that or Williamsburg to Swanson). That unit would probably be realigned to an elementary school that feeds to either kenmore or Williamsburg. Similarly, the Ashlawn tail will probably be realigned to either tj or hamm. Asfs has always been split across 2-3 middle schools, so maybe not. Who knows? Maybe they will keep those guys at Swanson. The asfs units that go to tj requested to go there, so I doubt that they will get moved out of tj, but they might get moved to long branch so that they aren’t the only kids from asfs that go to tj. Who knows.
Either way, alignment and efficiency/proximity are always the top three priorities. They aren’t starting with a blank slate— why have kids moving as a metric if you arent trying to maintain historical boundaries at all?

They are NOT trying to maintain historical boundaries. Those no longer work. This process is starting over and creating logical boundaries.

Sounds like musical chairs...I guess it really depends how full APS wants Reed. 90%? Preschool...?

Interesting to note the conversation has turned almost entirely to boundaries over move/no move. Looks like that most agree the moves are on.

Moves are on! And we hit 100 pages!

That PU brings the FARMs to Nottingham...put it at Reed and all of the sudden Nottingham will have less FARMs than Tuckahoe...and the SB isn't that stupid.

Anonymous wrote:I agree. Also, did you hear all the crying about how there's no bus service to McKinley so lower income ATS parents wouldn't be able to make it there? Is that somehow NOT a problem if the McKinley neighborhood boundary is drawn way down to scoop up some of the low income western Pike units? GTF out of here. Bunch of hypocrites.

I heard that crying and don't get it. McKinley is just 1/3 of a mile from Wilson Blvd. Aren't there plenty of buses on Wilson?

Looks like 1B is closest.

1A and 1B (decent service during rush hour) service nearish McKinley though McKinley is kind of in middle of 1A/1B on Wilson, 2A on Washington Blvd, and East Falls Church but not super close to any of those.

Ugh. Please don’t act like there’s breaking news when there isn’t.

How does Hamm compare to Kenmore?

This thread is an echo chamber. Just because a few people obsess over their hatred of option schools and the McKinley crowd doesn’t mean the rest of Arlington feels the same way or is strongly in support of what promises to be a very disruptive shuffling of school locations.

Agreed and well said. I've (mostly) stayed away from commenting because of the viciousness of the pro APS staff here.
