The Trump Women and their Fashion Mishaps - Part Three

Nope, did you make that up by yourself or it being peddled by his fans? It's as real as the decades of photos of him next to other men of reportedly shorter or the "same height" as him and Trump is always shorter because he's always lied about it.

I think people who obsess over Melania being a fashion icon don't get that you can't be a trend follower and a trend setter at the same time. She's not inspiring anyone. She doesn't seem original or interesting to me -- you can find women dressing like this all over Instagram.

I will grant that Hamburglar-chic was an interesting choice, but I don't think it's going to be sweeping the nation.

Nancy Pelosi’s orange Max Mara coat, however. Dang. That made a statement.

Yes. For someone in the public eye for what seems like nearly every minute of the day, she always looks great.

Melania Trump clearly knows exactly what she wants and how she wants to look and is not listening to any of us. Her style is conservative but impeccable. Yes, she dresses as a very, very, very rich, very formal, very private woman And she knows how to cut a figure and when she's dressed to make a statement, she absolutely makes a statement without being flashy. You really cannot fault how she dresses because she is unmissable, similar to how Kate Middleton can dress to be noticed when she wants to, without being extravagant or flashy or tacky. At the same time Melania is not seeking to be a fashion icon or trendsetter.

One of Melania's advantages is she also knows how to carry herself. The modeling comes in handy here.

Nice try, PR pro.

No one who recalls her pink dress with the thigh-wide puffy sleeves would call her a conservative dresser. 🤣

The fascist Italian message “I don’t really care, do u” plastered across her back as she allegedly went to visit children at the border was also not private or conservative or rich. It was cruel and low class and public.

The comments about M dressing as a very rich woman might make sense in general, but the part about dressing as a private and formal woman are off the mark.

LOL esp while she's wearing leggings, a waist-length puffer, and a black beanie to visit disaster victims. Oh yes, very formal and private.

I'm going to take issue with this, and I have love lost for Melania. I loathe the Trumps.

Yeah, this is an unflattering picture of her, but this is how mid-50's women who have not injected their face with a ton of fillers and who haven't done plastic surgery look (like so many of the other Trump women). They are aging. This is aging. Melania is aging just fine. She is still an attractive woman.

You’re saying the Trumps do not use fillers or plastic surgery? 🤣 Thank you for the laugh. That was good.

All you have to do is look at their changing faces over the years, especially Eric, Tiff, and Ivanka and definitely Melania.

The adult Trump kids had no chins as children. Those existing chins did not suddenly grow by themselves. The gummy Eric smile did not disappear by itself.

Melania looked like she used filers. You could tell by how filled and puffy her skin was four years ago. Now she is wrinkly so maybe stopped using fillers.

No I said I don't think Melania has had plastic surgery or uses fillers, not the rest of the Trumps. I'll add that if she has, it's pretty minimal and subtle. I think Botox is a given.

Melania has had a ton of plastic surgery. Come on, who do you think you’re fooling?

I didn't like that style on Ivanka, but years ago I considered a similar style for my wedding gown and didn't do it because I was worried it would be too formal for our outdoor venue. I regret it -- it's really dramatic and you don't see it very often and I should have just gone for it and said screw it to convention.

But while I think this dress is beautiful, the proportions are wrong for her height. The skirt looks too short for me and I think there should be more volume around the waist. And I think it's hard for that neckline to look elegant on her -- she looked much better in that jeweled dress she wore the night before with the off-the-shoulder neckline.

Miri from Capital Stitch (local) had some interesting commentary on Ivanka's dress that a Vogue Editor liked
https://www.instagram.com/p/DFLCXt8xlwB/ - this was about the embroidery itself
https://www.instagram.com/p/DFLjhvryh9-/ - the was more commentary on the quality of fashion/fashion industry/ Givenchy /LVMH

I believe the Vogue editor liked the second post

Wow, she really does not give a damn.

I hate her but have to say she was visiting western NC. So, I consider this appropriate. Dumpy is not wearing a tie—also appropriate.

However, Dumpy told hurricane victims he wants to get rid of FEMA and make states pay for disasters. He only has a concept of a plan…

Not sure how places like MS or NC would pay for a billion in damages? But it would probably make cheap real estate available to billionaires.

It really wasm't appropriate. It was the most IDGAF outfit she could put on, without having those words actually written on the back of her jacket. I'm not outraged by it - more just rolling my eyes. Here we go again.

I think the sunglasses and scowl are what really make it look weird. She looks like the hot older mom at school dropoff before going to exercise class.

What would be better to wear to a disaster zone?

I did disaster work, and we never would dress up in those situations—even if we were not doing the labor. The people who appeared on TV would be dressed in jeans to seem more appealing.

Well jeans would have been a lot more appropriate. You can look at literally thousands of photos of elected officials and their spouses at disaster sites to see what is more appropriate than black tights, a puffer, and a giant scowl.

Here are the Bidens, just for one example:

DeSantis wears some weird clothes to disaster sites - a campaign vest and high white boots, for example - but he's not pantsless.

You put on something that makes it look like you're ready to pitch in and work if need be, but is also clean and respectful to the people you're seeing. That outfit she's wearing is not respectful to the people she's seeing - she's making it look like she doesn't care (which, accurate!) and is there because someone dragged her out of bed and didn't give her a chance to put on an outfit.

That time she wore a (very expensive) flannel shirt and jeans to do some gardening would have been appropriate. This is not.

Anyway who cares. The semiotics of her wardrobe are clicky but inconsequential. Fook FEMA.

Why does Dr. Jill always look so dumpy?

+1
I had to laugh while reading the PP's post, scolding Melania for wearing something she (the PP) deemed did not look like she was ready to "pitch in and work." Jill, in her shapeless shirt dress and atrocious white sandals (??) certainly doesn't look ready to get to work helping. PP seems happy to ignore that fact.

What exactly is an appropriate outfit for an unelected tag-along spouse visiting a disaster area?

There are literally thousands of photos of people - Dems and Rs - wearing appropriate outfits to disaster areas. Feel free to look at any of those.

Are you the person in that thread asking about leggings in Europe hwo needed a list of pants that aren't leggings because you don't know what they are?

Are people so stupid now they don't know that pants exist that aren't leggings?!

DP. So you're saying this getup was appropriate disaster area wear?

Melania seems to have grown into her current face but I remember she looked very “pulled” during the first Trump administration. This is why you have to be careful with facelifts- there is only so much you can pull.

I’m not that poster but I think Jill is fine — it was apparently a hot day so a casual dress and sneakers is fine. I think Melania was also basically fine except the cap and sunglasses, which makes this look too much like she’s trying to not be there. (This is absolutely what stars do when they don’t want to get pap shots and just want to pick up a cup of coffee while walking their dog.). There seems to be some debate about whether she’s wearing skinny jeans or leggings — IMHO leggings aren’t appropriate in a professional environment (which this basically is for her) but skinny jeans would be okay.
