Maret is not as highly regarded so that is why the surprise from pp. |
No, it’s not true. However, this is DCUM where people lie about everything to try to make a point. Maret’s mean (average) GPA for graduating seniors has ranged from 3.59 (2021) to 3.70 (2023). The average GPA for the c/o 2024 is a 3.64. So, the answer is 3.64, which is historically more typical for Maret. https://resources.finalsite.net/images/v1697637161/maret/cvhkhz1fyj0cei6s4emr/Maret-Profile-2023_2024.pdf |
Okay no one cares about 2021 or 2022 anymore obviously as those years for college admits are no longer the case anywhere. But yes 2023 and 2024 are relevant and a 3.64 average is relevant especially being it is a much less rigorous school than other top schools. It’s true we know parents that have kids at both and they all say this. We all know many kids at top schools are getting screwed over and no one does or says anything about it except complain on here. Unless you have actually stated this to the HOS and to your college counselors then please don’t complain on here anymore. It is useless! |
Their average GPA went *up* after the change to the admissions policy. And many colleges prioritize first gen applicants. So admissions may get even better. We’ll see how it shakes out. |
They add data points for people who want to see the big picture, as I do. No one is forcing you to click on the Instagram links. |
Sigh. Still talking about a public school on private school forum? These posts would get deleted if on public schools forum if we wrote about private college admissions constantly. |
Ok, so the average GPA for the last Maret graduating class (2023) was a 3.7 and I posted it was a 3.7 and yet I'm lying to make a point? OK. |
We looked at TJ for our kids so I knew the earlier comment was false. Looking at admissions across the region is helpful when evaluating private schools as well as during college admissions. This isn't your personal forum. There are many different parents with different priorities here. Some of us don't like to put on blinders when making big life decisions. |
Yes and when you’re talking about those decisions regarding public schools they should be held in the public school forum! This is ridiculous! If we were having discussions about which private schools to attend on the public school forum they would be deleted! |
It is the private school forum |
What are you talking about? The 3.64 is the most relevant because: 1. It’s the most recent GPA; 2. It’s the average of the highest and lowest GPAs from the most recent 4 years; and 3. It’s closer to what the GPA has been historically. The 3.70 was an outlier. |
I was just correcting the error in the earlier comment. Why are you triggered by this. |
Yes, as a parent with kids in private schools I want to understand what the college admissions landscape looks like for the area. Private schools don’t exist in a vacuum. |
No, the average and most recent Maret GPA (c/o 2024) is a 3.64. You made it sound like a 3.70 is typical. It is not. |
I stand corrected, thanks for the info. I had made some erroneous assumptions, partly because of sour grapes on my end. My son was rejected after a solid application (4.0, well-written short essays/science question, etc), but he doesn’t have any IEP’s, or come from a low socioeconomic family (we’re middle class, I guess). His friend, who has dyslexia, low SE background, A’s and B’s, was admitted and has had to drop classes at TJ b/c of the rigor. This is just anecdotal and apparently not representative of the school as a whole. I’m slightly bitter but also understand the value of broadening the application pool to represent people in our society; it’s about equity and opportunity. I just wish TJ admissions were more upfront about it and say they are prioritizing these “life experiences” as they call it. It’s not really about merit, at least not in the classic understanding of it (high GPA, performance on the application q’s). As for discussing magnets/public on this forum, I believe it contextualizes some of the issues and questions we have about private schools. |
