Far more than doubled. Offers to Black students rose from "Too Small to Report" (reporting appears to have settled on 6) to 39. Offers to Hispanic students went from 16 to 62. The population of FEMALE students went from under 42% to 46%. |
Wrong. Fairfax is majority Democrat, that is why the admissions reforms took place. |
This is far more true than the white piece. |
It sounds like FCPS is going to win the lawsuit, so this will be the new status quo. I hope everyone can accept that and move on. |
But this thread hasn't gotten to 100 pages yet! Can't shut it down at 99! |
Sad that TJ lost and is now going to be a lottery school. Well done FCPS! Great victory! |
Math is racist. Merit is a myth. Hard work and equity can't co-exist. Let's move on. |
OK. |
Nobody has said this. I'm sorry you are unable to understand this very basic set of issues. Wealthy areas supplement giving their children an advantage over many equally bright students in less affluent areas. Some wealthy families went as far to buy answers to a test that enabled admission. Publicly funded schools have to benefit all families equally not just those who supplement or attend cram school. |
That's your distorted view of reality. Good for you. Move on! |
This again. OK, but then you refuse to apply this philosophy to sports. You cannot have it both ways. |
Exactly. |
Publicly funded schools have absolutely no right to overtly discriminate against someone just because their kids do supplementary work outside the school. It is completely shameful abuse of power. |
Accepting kids based on their accomplishments in school is not discriminating against anyone. It allows for a comparison across data points that are shared. Removing the various extras that not everyone knows about or can afford or can get kids to simply levels the playing field.
We are talking admissions to a Public High School, not a Private College or High School where they are not meant to serve the entire population. A Public high school should be looking to serve all the kids in its boundaries. It should not be worried about trying to weigh the resume of a kid whose parents know about, can afford, or can transport a kid to various special classes and activities when other kids do not have the same option. Kids have certain classes that are available to all of them through Middle School, so compare against that. They can use their essays and the like to demonstrate their interest in STEM. That should be more then enough. |
If you believed this you would want to eliminate TJ entirely. So much hypocrisy, as long as TJ ends up embarrassing you less because it has a few more Black and Hispanic kids. |
