CYA seems to have adopted a very aggressive recruiting posture in past year or two, so no shock that CYA has been actively recruiting VYS players since Jane's departure. I actually received a text message from Jane (and know several other families that have as well) trying to recruit my kid and several other players to CYA and, of course, she keeps advertising camps in Vienna to Vys club parents on her own as part of an indirect Calipari-style of recruiting, in obv attempt to fill void left by lack of current vys programs. The leagues are toothless to prevent this, so recruiting is now simply a matter of the personal ethics of those involved. Sr VYS technical leadership has apparently looked at this and has a lot of the text messages, but nothing really can be done (other than to start developing better programs so that ppl actually want to stay!).

Chiming in to say I don't see another club's offering of camps, open to others, as unethical. I WISH VYS was offering the breadth of camps and workshops it used to. I guess I see the offering of classes/camps as different from the more-unethical "poaching" of other clubs' kids.

Yes, many did. I DO know that several individuals, some were parents that functioned heavily within the club as long time volunteers. Their emails to mike allen were never acknowledged. When that happened, it seemed that only very few had a voice.

Jane has been absolutely professional. She has written several of us who did training programs with her, and there's nothing wrong with that. I spoke with her about Chantilly, but it's too far for us to go. I got no hard sell.

the answer, from what I hear, is that guney came in and immediately announced that he would need to blow the entire club’s model up and that it would take at least three years to fix. All of the volunteers were viewed as enemies of the state, with the age group coordinators and other admin being the first group in guney’s crosshairs and longtime parent coaches in travel and house also believed to be part of the problem. Programs were severely cut, with no summer programs at all, and most of money was redirected to exorbitant staff hires without making up for lost revenue, expertise, and resources. Scheduling became a disaster as gunney took this over himself, and his rigid uniform demands and the switch to soccer.com proved to be massively problematic. He even abolished the club’s popular “Friday nights lights” pickup program –which had been profiled in socerwire and was symbolic of what vys had been doing right – without any explanation. it has been downhill ever since. I have not met the guy, but I have also heard that he doesn’t interact well with the kids on the rare instance when he coaches, unlike lima, and no one seems to ever see him or know who he is.

when he first announced his plans last spring and particularly when he began to move against the agcs, I was told that several bod director members and many of the long-tenured agc strongly resisted and begged him to realize the value in continuity and the good things that lima had done without dismantling everything and starting over again. The story I hear is that vys prez mike allin backed guney – allen was apparently the driving force behind his hiring due to mutual connection -- and then those bod members and agcs all quit. The volunteer infrastructure of the club has been crumbling ever since, with more and more quitting and going to other clubs. Theoretically they were supposed to be replaced with professionals, but they never were or they were replaced by high-paid employees who were also bad hires. House was also ignored as more and more money was spent on staff salaries and travel prgrm and in marketing vys parents to inova.

as a result, VYS now seems to be in a death spiral, from which it may never recover. the Executive Director has apparently resigned, the td and president are silent and invisible, a key technical assistant has gone on a mysterious leave of absence, and many of the board members and volunteers who helped run the club previously are now all gone, mostly to mclean, cya and other clubs. As anyone who has attended a bod meeting recently could tell you, it is also evident that the relationship between directors and staff has become completely dysfunctional. the club culture overall has also changed significantly, with the long-held community club ideal now a relic of a past era and VYS now becoming more like an endless episode of game of thrones, which makes it such that no one wants to volunteer or participate anymore. it is all just very sad. it has taken just eight months for everything that was right about vys to be destroyed and nothing has been improved upon. The much heralded technical curriculum and practice plans by Gunny, for instance, are ignored by basically every coach as they are so useless. So I really question what it will look like when guney is done in three years, if anyone is even still here anymore by that point. I can only hope that VYS cuts its losses sooner than that, but it is hard to see how that happens with current leadership in place.

I thought it was great under Eddie. Why can't someone just pick up where he left off? All the programs are already there and VYS has the reservations on the fields already.

Are you trying to say Jane has been unprofessional?! Please! She has been a strong leader to many families she has has worked with. She has every right to create programs in the area. VYS does not have exclusive rights. This banter is rediculous. VYS is a joke with wanna be leaders acting like they think they are leading a fortune 500 company or something. Guess thats what ya do when ya cant cut it in the real world... you find a way to volunteer and bully and destroy everything in your path. The families would have more respect if these individuals would come forward and admit they made some poor choices and show us that it really means more to them to revive the club than save face and keep up the lies

Maybe VYS had to drop the Friday night pick-up because of field space? At least some of their VPL teams have their 3rd practice on Friday nights.

And lastly, i think its worth mentioning. If any family in the vienna area is searching for a soccer program/camp for their youngsters, I would highly recommend Jane Dawber. My daughter has worked with her and she still talks about her. Its a shame VYS drove her out. She was a great asset. They have driven out all of their quality employees. They cant even keep the individuals they put into place after they wiped out their entire technical staff. I know at least one director and executive director that couldnt even tolerate that dysfunction for a full year.

VYS would've loved to have her stay.

They had the space available, at least until daylight hours grew short. New TD just made a snap decision and has no idea how to back it up.

So? The field assignor had reserved a field for pickup and was told to release it because the new TD didn't want to do pickup.
