Sure but ultimately, tv contracts are about viewership. Absolutely Stanford is a cultural fit, certainly more so than FSU or Clemson. But they already have Northwestern and Rutgers. How many "Washington Generals" does the league need? |
Keep telling yourself that. Just keep in mind that it was a Big10 quarterback who said ""we ain't come here to play school" in a press conference. |
Which QB ? Which School ? |
3. |
Ohio State of course! Cardale Jones said it. The funny thing is that he actually did graduate 5 years after he left tOSU from tOSU. |
| Anything going to happen in the ACC today?! |
| I’m thinking the billions in research money outweighs the millions in TV money. |
The Ohio State University, which isn't the best of the B1G academically and is more than happy to bend academic standards for athletic admissions. |
The B1G schools don't share/pool their research money. |
Right, but they do work together. Google Big Ben Academic Alliance (used to be CIC-Committee on institutional Cooperation). |
| Today is the big day when FSU turns out look like a loser. |
I understand that, but researchers are going to collaborate as they can. If researchers at Wisconsin who are working on a hybrid delivery model for flue and COVID shots want to partner with colleagues at Stanford, the football conference is not going to influence that decision. |
It seems like a way for schools run by football teams to pretend academics matter |
|
The B1G is predominantly large flagship state schools with huge numbers of alumni and huge research budgets. Cal fits better than Stanford. The schools that would be different are Northwestern, Purdue and Michigan State (not flagship). The common interests and issues are very well defined in the B1G and the union is cohesive. It’s a great club with friendly competition. |
Sure, Michigan is run by a football team. You just can’t stand the fact that some universities are great at many things. |
