Anybody want to tell the White House that the Keystone Pipeline would reduce the cost of moving oil?

What percentage of gas prices is attributable to oil transportation costs?

How about we put the refineries and diesel/gas distribution under the Defense Production Act and put limits on profits and markups. You'd see the price drop right back down in line with crude index.

Oil and gas industry has 100% brought that on itself by spending billions upon billions fighting to hold back alternative energy and peddling false climate denial propaganda for the last 40+ years.

Even if everything were green-lighted today, KXL would take years. And, it is for very low-quality tar sands oil that can't be refined anywhere other than a handful of gulf coast refineries and the quality of product that can be made from it is limited - it's typically not being used for domestic gasoline and thus wouldn't do much for the cost at the pump.

I appreciate the response, and you're totally on point, but I was hoping to nudge the PP to use their very clearly atrophied critical thinking skills to arrive at that conclusion. Ah, well.

That’s a tough question to answer because lots of moving parts but, right now, Western Canadian Select is selling at about a 15% discount to West Texas Intermediate crude. You’d need to reconfigure refineries, but having enough pipeline capacity to get Canadian oil to the gulf would reduce prices.

No, you wouldn’t. You’d see the price of crude go up to match current gas prices.

There are only two ways out of this. More supply. Less consumption.

Three ways, actually

Calling anyone who criticizes Biden about gas prices a Trumper. This is the route they'll keep going down.

Who is doing that?

Why has the GOP fought alternative energy tooth and nail? Why did they reduce efficiency standards under Elaine Chao?

Or you could call your GOP senators and ask them to support the proposed law that would have prevented oil and gas price gouging.

The GOP has not fought alternative energy. We just don't believe (and it is proving to be correct) that this nation is ready to go as green as the Dems think we should. The technology isn't there. The infrastructure isn't there. The war on fossil fuels that the Dems have waged have resulted in record high gas prices. This is part of their plan.

And, the law that you reference.... It would have done NOTHING for oil and gas prices. You first have to prove there is gouging going on. No Dem has provided any evidence of such.

I won't be surprised to see $10 a gallon gas. We need to move to other energy sources. We also need to move to much more efficient, fast, and widespread public transportation that arrives at stops every 5 minutes or less. No reason why suburbs can't have fast, easy bus systems.

Gaslighting right here. Yes, the GOP has definitely fought alternative energy.

US Domestic crude production is at historic highs. Price at the pump is way out of kilter from crude prices.
That's straight up gouging. It needs to be gotten under control.
