FCV parents - has anyone heard anything?

Gus was absolutely NOT like this-he was very good with communication and getting back to parents quickly to answer questions. Team managers sort of set the tone for communication, so it is not always about the coaches.

This He was one of the very few good things about FCV. We left shortly before he did.

Sounds like things fell off?

PP here. Wouldn't know. They don't really have any real communication, even within the teams.

Amen to that. As far as youth soccer clubs go, I've had three kids in five different clubs over the years and our experience at FCV was definitely the most disjointed and chaotic. If your DC is on a DA/GA team, maybe the communication is better because those are the teams that they value and prioritize. But there are travel coaches there who I honestly think must have a "fear of people". I've personally seen one of these coaches turn and literally jog in the opposite direction when he realized that a parent was walking towards him to ask a question!

Yikes

Bobby Pup has done a fantastic job of communicating during CoVid. Couldn’t have asked for better. He communicated with and kept the players busy this whole time.

Gus doesn’t communicate well. He tells you what you want to hear and then cannot follow through with it.

Gus could ball back in the day and knows the game far better. I’ll take that over emails.

I’ll take a coach over a previously good player

I’d rather have someone with actual experience playing the game of soccer-which BP does not have, not even at the HS level!!

Do you need a cancer survivor to be the doctor? Only WW2 vets to teach WW2?

Will the 05 team implode w/o Gus? I hear that one of the top players already left for Loudoun.

Marvin is coaching the 05 United team and Gus was supposed to assist for that team-they did well last year with Gus at the helm. Several girls have left already for greener pastures.

Correct. I’d rather have a doctor teach me how to be a doctor and I’d rather have a player teach my kid how to be a player.

No-but I would argue that those types of people could provide a unique spin and empathy to those particular instances you cited.

Sports are completely in their own realm-a coach with absolutely no meaningful experience playing the game they are trying to coach-in what universe does that make any sense?

Soccer licensing courses are not easy. They require a lot of time and an understanding of the game. A top licensed coach certainly understands the game.
