Are you serious? Not to knock TJ, but the 2023 Instagram college placements were fine, even good, but not amazing. There are over 500 graduating TJ seniors, and 10 students posted Ivy destinations. Most 2023 students are attending state flagships. That’s good, but let’s not overstate the case.

You seem really upset and you sound a lot like the poster who was adamant about Sidwell placing 50% of their graduates in T20 schools. Please calm down. It’s ok to appreciate amazing college acceptances from all schools. It doesn’t mean your private school is any less.

I never mentioned Ivies. Most of their graduates are going to T30 colleges and that is very impressive. And yes they are able to achieve that without paying a hefty price for their high school and while competing alongside 500 extremely competent peers so good for them!

I mentioned Ivies, and that’s what I look for first. T30/50 mostly state schools, are nice (although the University Central Florida and Ave Maria definitely don’t make the cut). However, I’m simply not interested in VT, UMD, GT, Purdue, Ohio State, UNC, etc…Why don’t you start a similar thread for magnets in the PUBLIC SCHOOL forum?!? There may be more parents there who are excited by those universities.

No. Similar to NCS, Sidwell no longer places such calls to colleges. Colleges no longer accept such calls.

I am not sure exactly. It's been a few years at least. I do believe that it stopped because - nationwide - colleges stopped taking the calls -- from all schools. But - I have heard that IF the college contacts the h/s counselor, the counselor will engage. It just doesn't work for the h/s to initiate contact. Hard to know, though.

I think they still make contact if they know them though and are friends. It may not be “official” but hey if you run into your friend somewhere you can’t be blamed for that.

DP. Right! Privates in the DC area! This has Baltimore and Annapolis and sorts of other schools. A lot to read through. Plus I am unfamiliar with many of them so I have to open up to figure out they are public and not local.

This website is becoming very unhelpful. Once again as pp have said please post on public school forum. I do not know this school and do not care. It is very large and is comparing two things that have zero in common. Comparing 500 plus kids to less than 100 is not useful.

There is an easy solution: Scroll right on down past what you do not wish to see. Grumpy grumpy grumpy.

One shouldn't have to do that in a thread topic of interest. I WANT to see college admissions info for private schools.

DP. Right! Privates in the DC area! This has Baltimore and Annapolis and sorts of other schools. A lot to read through. Plus I am unfamiliar with many of them so I have to open up to figure out they are public and not local.

FFS - both of you. This is a free website and those things ARE of interest to others. Clicking and scrolling are not athletic or intellectual activities that only few can do. And surely you have time to do so. Wow. Whine-Y!

I agree. And if you learn how to use Instagram (not challenging), all of the invaluable information will magically come to you with no burdensome clicking, scrolling, and sifting.

TJ's college placement isn't what it used to be either, especially with the top schools.

The “high-end publics” are sending the majority of their 500+ seniors to state universities—and a wide range at that (in terms of quality). That’s not perspective I need nor value.
