Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Was this just announced? That would be a surprisingly great policy outcome. |
DC became positive with Delta 2 months after last shot. The numbers are completely bogus. The vaccine is only lessening symptoms. It's not giving immunity. They need to go out there with open honesty about what people should expect because the PR campaign is all over the place and giving people more reason to be distrustful rather than less. It's a disaster. |
Nobody said any vaccine is 100% effective in preventing infections. Also the current vaccines were designed based on the original strain. They are known to be less effective against delta and even less effective against omicron. |
Newsflash: The flu shot and the covid19 shot don't currently match the strains going around the DMV. Just in case anyone was still holding out hope that either did. |
Why are people spreading disinformation? Are they trying to discourage vaccination? Are they trying to create panic? |
| The vaccine isn't meant to 100% prevent infection. It'd be great if it did that, but even the flu vaccine doesn't do that. What it does is GREATLY increase the chance at survival and significantly lessen the chance that you'll be hospitalized and/or have severe symptoms that may cause long term issues. I don't understand why this is confusing for people. Being vaccinated is still a much better option than being unvaccinated. |
And just like every year with the flu shot, even if you do get either virus, your illness will be much milder and less prone to complications than if you hadn’t gotten the vaccine. |
Maybe you could view it as a reminder that nothing if foolproof and other mitigation and responsible behavior is needed. Now I think some of this is a failure in public messaging because people hear the vaccine is 95% effective and think that gives them permission to go to parties and crowded football games. But people should educate themselves on the limitations of just vaccinating and nothing else. |
Permission is not needed. Those activities are allowed. |
| 20 new cases at MBHS. OMG! |
Right. They might get something akin to cold. It really seems like people have lost perspective on that. I don't remember calls to isolate or mask during past cold/flu seasons. |
In a school with 3200 kids and a few hundred staff members? If that is sustained it might get to the 5% threshold, but just barely. |
YES x1000 |
They are symptomatic. Considering asymptomatic ones and symptomatic but not tested I would guess that it may be around 100 cases in one day. That is OMG. |
25 announced at Wheaton HS today. |
