Bennifer Revisited

Says a lot about JLo that she’d date this piece of trash. Then again, she was engaged to ARod, so her standards are pretty low.

He's awful. In addition to all the deadbeat, narcissism, I also read it as having an audience of one: JLo. Seems like a guy who's trying to erase his past so the current woman can believe it's all *always* really been about her. Classic narcissism. Kind of like the "sun shining" quote that JG captured so well.

JG should be counting her lucky stars to be away from this self-destructive loser and, after reading this, I hope her kids have a good therapist. He's trash.

Well he and j lo dovetail pretty perfectly in this way, j lo also views herself as deeply special and they join around this fantasy about this most special love story together and the public fuels it and they fuel it. Both narcissists, both gross.

She's a thin skinned narcissist too.

At her own hand...

Garner has three kids by a man who never cared for her, she didn't dodge the bullet, she bit the bullet and is stuck with with the bad after taste for life .

They remind me of the kind of couple the therapist esther perel has had on her podcasts, where she pretty quickly cuts across the fantasied unconscious pact they made and meets them when they seek help after they hit the painful, confusing and shocking bottom. She sees through the dynamic in about 20 seconds. And then the whole idealized thing comes into the light of day and the listener just ends up eventually feeling really sad for all of the profound loss, insecurity, and unacknowledged trauma in the history of both people. They are both in the throes of fantasy and I have always viewed lopez as a possible sex addict/workaholic and people seem reluctant to admit that (maybe a "love addict" as she has suggested and possibly sugar-coated sounds better?) And he is certainly an addict, that's a given. They are both addicts, and have the impulsively, withdrawal from reality and narcissism that often goes with it. What's that phrase about addicts? Something about being the most grandiose but deeply insecure people. She reminds me a lot of Tom Cruise actually, major defenses and efforts at pr that are so completely over the top and underneath is someone with their own bizarre grandiose ideas, with a mind that has a a whole superstructure of narcissistic beliefs and behavior. For these two to stand out as narcissists in Hollywood which is teeming with them really says something.

Imagine caring about any of this? Jeez, some of you need to chill the heck out. And the only revisionist history in this thread is pretending anyone ever gave a damn about Jennifer Garner. She was a flash in the pan dime a dozen girl next door 20 damn years ago.

He's a filthy rich A-list movie star with an Oscar, he does not live in the real world, you GS-whatever and SAHM peasants will never understand.

I think there was at least a period when he DID care for her. Hence the sunshine period in the earlier quote.

jesus - JenG has continued to act for this entire 20 years. You may not be a fan, which is fine, but she has a decent career on her own.

And she was popular and hot enough that her show (with a commercial featuring her in her skivvies) was given the post-Super Bowl spot.

I’m confused as to why you are posting since you purportedly don’t care about this? The irony of your post is beyond.

Clear from pictures that he doted on her early on. You know, before feeling trapped by the expectation that he be a mature and giving father and husband.

Its definitely a mess PR wise and sad for his children to have to hear about it, which they will when they walk into school this morning (LA time).

That's all that matters. He says they are his highest priority and yet he fluffs this up royally.

Why would he say something like this. It is so mean and his ex has been incredibly kind. I think the trapped feeling was that she was pregnant when they married but he had two more kids after so he kept it going for awhile. I am guessing Jen G can be controlling but maybe she is controlling because she was married to a child. I hope this new/old relationship works for the sake of his kids.

I think he's kind of a douche, but I didn't think the quotes were that bad. He laid the blame for the drinking on himself, praised Garner as a mom, and was real about the fact that the marriage didn't work.

The US Weekly headline definitely sensationalizes it.

Whether he and JLo last remains to be seen. I think she's a force and isn't going to compromise a lot. It's a recipe for success, but he may not be able to keep up.

I LOVE Jennifer Garner, so I feel like this is a betrayal, but there is something I like about the idea of Bennifer 2.0 being Hollywood's GenX glamour couple a la Annette Benning and Warren Beatty.

OMG these fools are nothing like Annette Benning and Warren Beatty.

+1 Annette B. Is pure class and Warren appreciates her.

Warren Beatty was a notorious womanizer and ultimate cad. He was fortunate he was born in a different time.

It was obvious from the get go—at least to some of us—that, this union was a mismatch of two entirely different people. Garner and Affleck really have nothing in common. He allowed PR machines and potentially racist family members to influence a choice that quite frankly should've been made by none other than himself . This union should've never happened . Therefore , all things considered, why would anyone be surprised that a deadbeat of his caliber fails to show any contrition and instead plays the victim by arguing that he felt trapped ?

The one thing they have in common is a wish for a stable, traditional nuclear family. Wasn't enough to make it last, but I think they both very much want that.
