Bennifer Revisited

Do you think he was drunk or high when he did this mot recent interview? He's usually pretty careful about his PR re: his family. This is just so uncouth, even for him.

Why would he say something like this. It is so mean and his ex has been incredibly kind. I think the trapped feeling was that she was pregnant when they married but he had two more kids after so he kept it going for awhile. I am guessing Jen G can be controlling but maybe she is controlling because she was married to a child. I hope this new/old relationship works for the sake of his kids.

I think he's kind of a douche, but I didn't think the quotes were that bad. He laid the blame for the drinking on himself, praised Garner as a mom, and was real about the fact that the marriage didn't work.

The US Weekly headline definitely sensationalizes it.

Whether he and JLo last remains to be seen. I think she's a force and isn't going to compromise a lot. It's a recipe for success, but he may not be able to keep up.

I LOVE Jennifer Garner, so I feel like this is a betrayal, but there is something I like about the idea of Bennifer 2.0 being Hollywood's GenX glamour couple a la Annette Benning and Warren Beatty.

He said he was drinking because he felt trapped. That's blaming Jen, not himself. He's a jerk. He should have just shut up about it. I used to love him, but the past few years have made me despise him.

I think he's a jerk and J. Garner is definitely the more mature and responsible one here; but I do think people are taking his comments out of context. To me, what he was trying to say was that he started drinking because of the problems he was experiencing in his marriage. They had problems and they were fighting; and because they felt like they had to stay in the marriage (for the kids), he felt trapped which caused him to drink more. I'm sure J. Garner felt trapped too.

OMG these fools are nothing like Annette Benning and Warren Beatty.

+1 Annette B. Is pure class and Warren appreciates her.

Please. He hit on my friend and gave her his number a decade or so ago. He was very very aggressive.

Did this incident occur in a church? Work place? Bar?

Bar in LA or Palm Springs, I forgot.

In a weird way, that is almost a more charitable explanation for this! If he said this drunk, perhaps he's just a flawed addict; if he was sober, he's a garbage human.

Except his drinking problem started before the marriage, it was a jerk thing to say period. But typical of an addict always shifting blame and nor regard for how actions impact others.

An alcoholic, drug abusing jerk.

Or someone who just hates his ex.

I bet they had a toxic relationship near the end. And I bet she held a lot of power during the divorce and with coparenting. She could share sordid details if he doesn’t fall in line and follow her rules: family church outings, no other baby mamas, etc.

Good for her. But probably barely tolerated by him.

So what? Plenty of people hate their exes, but you don't go around badmouthing them especially when kids are involved unless you are an immature jerk. Women like you who constantly excuse ahole behavior by men are why there are so many Afflecks in the world.
Affleck is a freaking immature jerk , and frankly there's something wrong with any women who has dated him in the last 3 years.

He’s a movie star, not royalty or a member of some prominent family. He could do whatever he wanted, whether she was pregnant or not, and I doubt anyone would have cared. Jennifer Garner isn’t as sexy and glamorous as JLo, but she was a pretty big deal back then. With all the revisionist history going on here, you’d think Ben was the most eligible man in the world, knocked up his cleaning lady, and did the right thing. She was a TV and movie star, and they came from similar backgrounds too. I’m pretty sure he wanted kids too, whether or not he planned to be an involved father.

Anonymous wrote: Years ago, on this forum, I had described Affleck as a deadbeat and some woman—most likely a white woman—, was quick to point out that he couldn't possibly be a dead beat because he was worth ...whatever amount I can't remember. I thought to myself : 'it's precisely this kind of cluelessnes and desperation for male attention on women's part that breeds the Afflecks of tomorrow'. A dead beat is someone who continuously shirks his responsibilities—social, marital, professional. Financial , etc—in favor of questionable self gratifying and sometimes illegal acts. He's manifestedly not a family guy , never been . Worse, he couldn't even be bothered to have a discussion with his then wife about the number of kids they wanted to have as it's clearly been a point of friction that contributed to the breakdown of the marriage .This was pure cowardice .

As an actress and even a person —though, admittedly I don't know her —, Jennifer garner does nothing for me , absolutely nothing. However, if we're being objective , it's hard not to see her as the grown up here . Until Affleck proves he was held at gun point and forced to marry her , he's just proving himself to be the idiot he's always been.Adulthood requires that one chooses its own path in life and make decisions independently. And herein lies the problem .

It was obvious from the get go—at least to some of us—that, this union was a mismatch of two entirely different people. Garner and Affleck really have nothing in common. He allowed PR machines and potentially racist family members to influence a choice that quite frankly should've been made by none other than himself . This union should've never happened . Therefore , all things considered, why would anyone be surprised that a deadbeat of his caliber fails to show any contrition and instead plays the victim by arguing that he felt trapped ?

Well said, yes he does indeed seem like a deadbeat.

“Likely a white woman”? What a horrible assumption to make

Horrible assumption in a forum where , conservatively speaking , at least 8 out 10 posters are white women ? Assumption ? Cool story , Annette.

this is a bunch of nonsense. all the women ben Affleck dated wanted him to be a faithful husband. most didn't need him to be rich. # of kids - who knows, but at least 2 for most. do you not think back then jlo wanted to "marry and settle down" and have kids with Affleck?

I am pretty sure Affleck is a hopeless romantic who sincerely believes in happily ever after and tells the women all about it... and they believe him. and then it fizzles he meets someone else. he is actually falling in love with women and he was in love with garner as much as with everyone else. and then he wasn't. there is nothing special about jlo or garner or shookus in respect to Affleck - all these women, no matter who different, had some things in common with him and had a real connection with him.

I should have gone back to treatment, I should have faced it, we could have dealt with it better. I didn't do that.....I just acted out and avoided dealing my struggles in a healthy way". Better no? Does not bring her into it by inference or suggest how she made you feel. In other words, take responsibility. I imagine so many things his former wife coukd have said about him in the throes of his relapse...hurtful, embarrassing things. She really never did. A shame he could not be as gracious.

+1. What a fu(king man baby. He’s got no class. Especially given that his kids are older noe and can read what’s in the news, seems especially unkind to day this crap.

He’s a narcissist through and through. Many addicts are. One sign is he created a reality, doesn’t like it, and then blames others for it, acting a victim and viciously discrediting the other person. Second sign, the fall hard and dump them pattern.

No, just some toxic bro cosplay for Stern’s benefit.

He's awful. In addition to all the deadbeat, narcissism, I also read it as having an audience of one: JLo. Seems like a guy who's trying to erase his past so the current woman can believe it's all *always* really been about her. Classic narcissism. Kind of like the "sun shining" quote that JG captured so well.

JG should be counting her lucky stars to be away from this self-destructive loser and, after reading this, I hope her kids have a good therapist. He's trash.

What a d*ck! Jen Garner, Ana de Armas and all his other exes dodged a massive bullet. JLo is in for a rude awakening.
