An alcoholic, drug abusing jerk.

Or someone who just hates his ex.

I bet they had a toxic relationship near the end. And I bet she held a lot of power during the divorce and with coparenting. She could share sordid details if he doesn’t fall in line and follow her rules: family church outings, no other baby mamas, etc.

Good for her. But probably barely tolerated by him.

So what? Plenty of people hate their exes, but you don't go around badmouthing them especially when kids are involved unless you are an immature jerk. Women like you who constantly excuse ahole behavior by men are why there are so many Afflecks in the world.
Affleck is a freaking immature jerk , and frankly there's something wrong with any women who has dated him in the last 3 years.

I totally agree. I never badmouthed my ex and we don’t even have kids! I cannot imagine doing that in the press. I was not a fan of Affleck or Garner but now I really dislike Affleck. I think his parents did a crappy job raising him and Casey. Garbage both of them.

As far as the dynamic dudebro duo Matt and Ben are concerned, I thought Matt had won the d*ckhead crown for 2021, with his “I recently learned from my daughter that using homophobic slurs is wrong”…but Ben just slipped by him at year’s end for the win. Even if he thinks it, why on earth would he need to say it?

Garner has three kids by a man who never cared for her, she didn't dodge the bullet, she bit the bullet and is stuck with with the bad after taste for life .

I think there was at least a period when he DID care for her. Hence the sunshine period in the earlier quote.

That's what you want to believe . There are things you don't say about someone you allegedly cared for at one point in time .

Why would he say something like this. It is so mean and his ex has been incredibly kind. I think the trapped feeling was that she was pregnant when they married but he had two more kids after so he kept it going for awhile. I am guessing Jen G can be controlling but maybe she is controlling because she was married to a child. I hope this new/old relationship works for the sake of his kids.

I think he's kind of a douche, but I didn't think the quotes were that bad. He laid the blame for the drinking on himself, praised Garner as a mom, and was real about the fact that the marriage didn't work.

The US Weekly headline definitely sensationalizes it.

Whether he and JLo last remains to be seen. I think she's a force and isn't going to compromise a lot. It's a recipe for success, but he may not be able to keep up.

I LOVE Jennifer Garner, so I feel like this is a betrayal, but there is something I like about the idea of Bennifer 2.0 being Hollywood's GenX glamour couple a la Annette Benning and Warren Beatty.

OMG these fools are nothing like Annette Benning and Warren Beatty.

+1 Annette B. Is pure class and Warren appreciates her.

Warren Beatty was a notorious womanizer and ultimate cad. He was fortunate he was born in a different time.

True, but he had a coolness and charisma that Ben Affleck has never had, even when he was well into his fifties. Ben Affleck has the sex appeal of a frat boy. An Annette Benning would never marry a Ben Affleck.

Why are you so invested in the idea that BA never gave a shit about JG? He's a narcissist. They care about people when they care about them, and badmouth them when they don't anymore.

It was obvious from the get go—at least to some of us—that, this union was a mismatch of two entirely different people. Garner and Affleck really have nothing in common. He allowed PR machines and potentially racist family members to influence a choice that quite frankly should've been made by none other than himself . This union should've never happened . Therefore , all things considered, why would anyone be surprised that a deadbeat of his caliber fails to show any contrition and instead plays the victim by arguing that he felt trapped ?

The one thing they have in common is a wish for a stable, traditional nuclear family. Wasn't enough to make it last, but I think they both very much want that.

Good lord ! Where do I begin ? I'm not sure which is scarier; your cluelessness or the fact that you genuinely believe the crap you wrote . Ben Affleck is not and will never be a family man . The core of his split from his ex wife is precisely because he wouldn't behave like someone with a wife and kids . Yet, here you are literally saying the dumbest thing possible, its like you live in an alternate universe or something.

Um, a great many men want a wife and family and yet don't behave like someone with a wife and kids. This is why unhappy marriages are unhappy. Check out the relationship thread.

I have a friend who got pregnant by her on again off again boyfriend. He married her. They then lost their child after birth. And they were split up less than a year later.

I think that Affleck likely THOUGHT he wanted to be a family man in that moment when he found out JenG was pregnant. So, he tried to play that role for a while (like my friend's ex did). Discovered it wasn't all it was cracked up to be or whatever his excuse was. So he gave up and moved on, but she is left with the 3 kids he probably never should have created with her.

The idea that you want something but don't act accordingly when you have it is preposterous. You're playing drive-by therapist when you're clearly not one isn't cute . Bye .

This is true. Garner used the old trick of pressuring marriage with a pregnancy, this is the moment when Ben should've called it quits.

Then why is it so common?

What he said is completely awful. Jen G was the best thing that ever happened to him. I am so glad Jen G and the kids are away from him. I pray there is no lasting damage to those kids.

Know what the worst thing is? I don't think he is into his kids either. Remember all those pictures of him and Jen G together when they were a couple and he was always looking bored/not into her/so completely different of his pictures with JLO (or even when he was pictured with Gwyneth, Ana, any other girlfriend)? He has that same look when he is pictured with his kids. That bored, not really into them type of look. He seems much more animated/has more of that look with JLo's kids.

Immaturity—an Adam's apple does not make you a man . Your ability to fulfill your duties does.

Wow, that is a really personal ad hominem attack on a random stranger on the internet with an opinion. Seek help.
