Sounds like Democrats are stupid to give Trump what he wants by not voting for the current bill.

The entire point of Republicans shutting down the government and not paying federal employees is because they want to destroy the Affordable Care Act. They very well know that increasing premiums by a 100 percent will force people off health insurance. And Republicans love that. Because Republicans are not good people.

I think this shutdown will last a long time. Republicans control everything - the House, the Senate, the White House, the Supreme Court. They seem very determined to deny health care to Americans who don't work for the government or a Fortune 500 company. Because Republicans are... unpleasant human beings.

In the end, once air traffic controllers go two months without being able to pay the mortgage and are forced to become UberEats drivers to sustain their families, it'll stop. Banks don't give a damn if you are federal employee. They'll take your house in a heartbeat.

This country shuts down when you can't move. The air traffic controllers are the ones who will decide when this stupidity ends. And meanwhile, these air traffic controllers and other essentials need to figure out how to live.

I cannot begin to express how much I loathe Mike Johnson and his swarmy cynicism.

They want to destroy ACA but don't have anything to replace it. Trump promised a "great" plan that would "cover everyone" all the way back in 2015. Where is it? When he got elected again for his second term, he was asked, and all he said was that he has a "concept of a plan" - in other words, nothing.

If the Republicans force this and get their way it means millions of Americans will start seeing huge price increases and will likely lose their health insurance. And a majority of those people are in red states, Trump voters. Trump and Johnson and Thune and the rest are throwing millions of their own biggest supporters under the bus.

the reason the GOP doesn't have a replacement is because the ACA is the GOP solution. The problem is that it was passed by Obama and the dems.

Why, almost everyone is working? Private industry is not hiring, so it’s not like people will quit if not paid. The labor market is frozen.

No one cares across America because 70% of Feds are still working with withheld pay.

What are those Feds going to do, find another job? There are no jobs especially for former Feds. They can sick out I guess, but risk a retaliatory RIF. Democrats will likely fold after Nov 1 when ACA premiums are paid, and having made their point it may make the news that the clean CR finally passed.

Republicans have always wanted to shut down the government. So they did it. Fox News hate stories about the Federal Government being reopened. The Dems are happy the government is shut down because the Federal government is being used to arrest and imprison democrats.

It is a good thing the US Military, DHS, FBI, DOJ, ICE, etc are not getting a paycheck. All those organizations and the people in them have declared war on Blue states and democrats.

If the Dems don’t want it opened it will remain closed. Hope it causes a lot of pain.

When the Republicans invoke the Schumer Precedent and claim they can use reconciliation on this clean CR, just as Schumer did in 2021.

Huh? Schumer didn't do a reconciliation in 2021. A bipartisan CR passed in the House and then in the Senate, 65-35.

Republicans do not have the votes to do that.
I'm hazy on the details, but I remember they announced they could do a bill that can be passed with majority vote, no filibuster, and they said they could do this twice. I think they used the second one to pass the "Inflation Reduction Act". 65-35 would not have needed this.

I am going to LMAO when feds get huge back pay checks for doing no work for 3-4 weeks. Free money from Trump and taxpayers for chilling at home.

Military and ICE are getting paid. MAGA doesn’t care about anything else.

My guess is it falls on TSA, like the last time. Americans of either party won’t tolerate massive flight delays/cancellations for very long. There is a deal to be had somewhere, where both sides claim a victory. In the meantime, just wait.

Obamacare is a GOP solution?

Not one republican voted for it.

Republicans passed a CR in the House.

It's democrats who decided not to vote for it in the Senate.

Fact: Republicans did not shut down the government.

The ACA was based on "Romneycare" in Massachusetts:

Romneycare was based on a framework designed by think tank wonks at the Heritage Foundation in 1989:
