Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
| They should go with Barack Obama High School. Watching the maga meltdown would be well worth it. |
Floris Falcons vs South Lakes Seahawks would be a good series. |
The name Oak Hill is okay but to me it’s too similar to “Oakton.” By the way, the Oak Hill area was originally called “Floris” and before that “Frying Pan.” The Fairfax County Public School historians say that by the late 1800s, the Frying Pan village had become a summer retreat for Washingtonians. Local tradition said that a boarding house guest thought the community should have a more genteel sounding name. According a Floris School history video, “In 1892 the village and its post office were re-named Floris, which means flower in Latin.” https://patch.com/virginia/herndon/remembering-herndons-history-who-named-frying-pan |

| I like Floris or Oak Hill. There is an Oakton ES and an Oakton HS, so there is precedence in naming an ES and a HS the same thing. |
| If you name it Oak Hill HS, gonna be hard to not have Oak Hill ES go there as some have suggested on here. |
|
Oak Hill sounds too much like Oakton.
Obama HS or Floris HS would get my vote. |
No people names. especially no living people |
I think it's a given that Oak Hill ES will go there. |
Is that an FCPS rule? |
Part of Hayfield ES goes to Edison HS, not Hayfield SS. |
Colin Powell was still alive when Colin Powell ES opened. |
Great, sounds like a school named after Obama should not be problematic. Great suggestion. |
| It's common sense not to. |
It is still not a good policy to name it after a person still alive. Especially, when he is running ads for a candidate for governor. |
