So what happens when the Federal government can’t issue Nov Food Stamps?

This. Look at all of the racist claptrap on this thread despite the facts: the largest group of recipients is white; 90% are native born citizens; 2/3 are on it for less than 2 years

What % have tattoos?

No idea. But we should definitely make a law that says if you have a tattoo you don't qualify for SNAP.

Because if you have money for tattoos, maybe you have money for food? Naw, that’s asking for too much sacrifice.

Or maybe you don’t? If 2/3 are on for two years or less, isn’t it highly likely the tattoo preceded the receipt of benefits?

I can’t believe I even had to argue that.

Nope. MAGA spoke. New rule: if you have a tattoo, you can never ever receive SNAP benefits.

That’s just not true. Less than 10% of recipients are White.

What’s your MAGA source for that?

Because according to Pew, 40% of recipients are White (non-Hispanic) and 87% of recipients were born in the US.

Straw man. SNAP has low income limits and asset tests. No one is suggesting to loosen those much less subsidize tattoos.

In a country like ours, nobody should go hungry. I can't imagine any person of genuine goodwill actually disagreeing with that statement. What is going on in this thread?

I think 95% agree with that statement. I certainly don’t want anyone to go hungry and support programs (public and private) to feed people.

However, I also believe that every individual is responsible for using their best efforts to feed themselves and their dependents before turning to government or others for assistance.

Obviously, many do and others cannot due to disability, age, etc. They should absolutely be supported.

But there’s also a portion of people (of all demographics) who don’t make that effort and/or persist in making awful life choices. The entire dispute comes down to how to deal with this group.

I get your sentiment but it's more work and cost to try to chase down and punish these people than to just provide a benefit trusting that it will be a safety net for the "right" people. If you are just interested in cost it's a no-brainer. But too many people are interested in ethics, "cheaters" and being hall monitors. I get it; it's human. But it's a scarcity view. We would do better to have a star trek plenty view.

Why are you lying about something so easily refuted? Do you assume that everyone is as stupid as you are?

It is astounding that people actually think anyone in the U.S. is starving. 44% of snap recipients are clinically obese. If you add in those that are “just” overweight, that is the vast majority They would just fine consuming half of the food they are currently consuming.

The rest of America isn’t far front that. Most people would be a lot healthier if they consumed far less food. We are country of chronic overeaters. 74% of total population is overweight. 1.6% are underweight (likely for
medical reasons and not for lack of ability to obtain food)

+1 Trump himself looks like one of those overeaters.

Fat people can starve, and still need to eat daily. Also obesity and malnourishment go hand in hand. Enough with the fat shaming. People need to eat no matter their size, and government imposed starvation is not a diet or a healthy solution to obesity.

The only people I know on SNAP are tattooed white MAGAs.

House Speaker Mike Johnson: "Anyone who's been made to suffer because of the health services you rely upon or the food & nutrition supplement for your family, anyone who is hurting, you have a home in the Republican party"

Little does he know, most already consider themselves Republicans and think they won't be affected.

Right, but they need to eat way less. Malnutrition and obesity don’t go hand in hand and there isn’t any strong evidence on this. Most of the ultra processed foods in the U.S. are fortified.

The government is not imposing starvation. Most people on snap are capable of buying enough food for survival.

No. That's literally the point of the program. To help people who cannot afford to buy enough food.

And these programs exist as a wage subsidy to many large corporations. They get away with paying less than a living wage because we the tax payers foot the bill. The government could choose to force those companies to pay reasonable wages, but it doesn’t. Instead, we have SNAP. If you don't like SNAP, contact your representatives and advocate for mandated living wages and profit sharing.

But make no mistake about it. People will suffer because our government thinks it can maintain its authority while allowing people to go hungry. Because our representatives care more about keeping the wealthy and large corporations happy than it does about keeping its citizens fed.

Government exists to serve the people. People working full time jobs should not be scraping by. Our government is failing us.
