I'm not sure your anecdotal "Just shush, never mind those meddlesome facts" act really matters. 2/3 of whomever these people are seem to believe exactly what was said ... https://en.idi.org.il/media/3958/democracy-index-english-2013.pdf |
Politicians from all parties need to denounce what happened at Cooper Union. |
I’m Jewish and agree. I can’t remember ever hearing it mentioned during services or anything. |
Anyone engaging in that kind of intimidating conduct gets a disorderly conduct charge, and if they lay hands on anyone, away they go to appear on more serious charges. There are many civil ways to address issues that simply need not involve trying to scare people. |
Thank you for taking the time to explain/provide background. This is really helpful. |
I think it's safe when action is taken by the administration. It's unsafe when action isn't taken? Unless it's actually unsafe in the moment, a different story. |
https://en.idi.org.il/media/3958/democracy-index-english-2013.pdf Or just suspend the disbelief for a minute to conduct a google search. That belief is alive and very, very well embedded in the State of Israel. Your anecdotal views don't change anything. I've never seen a Hamas militant so much as shake an Olive Garden breadstick at an Israeli citizen, so certainly they must not have been involved in the events of 10/7, right? I also never stepped on the moon myself, so that didn't happen, as well. |
That the school felt that it had to barricade the Jewish students in the library for their own protection is really something. Any parent of a Jewish student there should demand answers and/or requesting transfer information. |
Excuse me what? |
An overall unsafe environment, it seems. |
I remember I was talking about the antisemitism on the far left a few years ago and no one believed me. It was all “stop centering yourself.”
It’s sad that it took this for people to realize it’s there. |
How many Hamas militants have you come across in your life? I was raised in a Jewish community, went to Jewish schools and summer camps, have spent plenty of time in Israel. Essentially have been friends with, acquainted with or spoken to several thousand Jews in my life. I have never heard anyone refer to us as “chosen”. I do, however, remember a sermon my rabbi once gave, discussing that passage in the Bible and explaining that it meant that the Jews chose God, not the other way around. |
Feeling "chosen" or "saved" or "potentially saved if you do certain things" is very common to many world religions including Christianity and Islam. It's kind of funny to me to point it out with regard to Judaism and/or Israel, which shows far more tolerance than many of its neighbor states to people of other religions. |
I was talking about it 30 years ago when I wasn’t even 12. It’s all out there now. |
You are welcome. And again, I want to be clear that I think the rhetoric is represhensible, even as I provide insight into it. No excuses, we all are responsible for our words. Also, I think that what we are seeing on college campuses has a similar if not same origin. Benign or non-benign actors throw out the words POC, colonizers, and oppression, and this generation of college students follow in lock-step. This is why it is so trendy to call Israel a colonizer state these days, the people saying that know what they are doing. |
