Wuhan virus (coronavirus) arrives in the USA

This is a predictable, and solveable, problem. Health care workers don't get their PPE from Home Depot. Hospitals and doctor's offices buy the PPE from suppliers, who can certainly prioritize sales to health care first.

Thank you. That is actually really good news.

As of yesterday 110 people were being tested -- so it's now down to 97 but the number of cases hasn't risen, leading to the conclusion that 13 more tests came out negative. Small area of good news.

Go virus, go!

It's probably the same crazies as the royal family thread. They are always looking for a boogeyman. Meghan! Coronavirus! What's next?

So how about we just discuss what we know as we do in a non panic orderly non freaking out just a need for information
and exchange opinions and data fashion and you go and watch some movies and don't worry about us,
NOBODY is panicking, there is NO reason to. If talking about something and getting information was to panic
then CDC would never post any data about the virus, the info, the preparation etc.
Simple act of sharing information has NOTHING to do with panic nor craziness.

93 pages = panic

Lol don’t read it. Why are you here?

HA! HA! HA!
If the sheer amount of pages indicates panic then once you see the Maegan and Harry page
count on the relevant post you will run for cover for sure!!!!

and it is only since.. January 8th.

Meghan and Prince Harry are moving to the U.S./Canada - OFFICIAL

Although to be honest, every pandemic simulation I'm familiar with had hospitals running out of PPE by week 4 of the outbreak.

The hospitals in Hubei have been short for days already.

"Thirty high school students in Palm Beach County have been told to stay home because they may have been exposed to coronavirus at a weekend conference.

The group had attended a Model United Nations event at Yale University in Connecticut that was cut short when the university notified participants that a student from China with a cough and fever had been taken to Yale New Haven Hospital. The Chinese student tested positive for influenza and has been isolated while awaiting test results for coronavirus."

New data has come in from Hubei province where Wuhan is located.

1032 new cases there and 37 deaths today.

This brings totals for mainland China to:

7087 cases and 169 deaths. There are another 99 cases outside of mainland China.

These could rise as data for today comes in for the rest of China.

This.

If our ER and first responder staff must go down to the local Home Depot or CVS to buy N95 masks for duty, something has already gone terribly wrong in our system.

That said, allowing a jumpy (and sometimes armed) populace to take solace in duct tape or masks is not an entirely bad idea. People who feel even marginally safer are likely to be less impulsive and paranoid. If there’s no widespread “wild” cases of the novel coronavirus, then the people wearing masks are not at increased risk of it. And they might actually spread less influenza since Americans are really bad about sneezing and coughing in public. Plastic face shields are still in supply for medical personnel.

Because it's too late, face masks are sold out online and in store already! And those Chinese factories aren't gonna ship any over in a looooooong time.

My friends in China can't even get masks, just talked to a friend in UK, masks are sold out too, she has a flight to Shanghai to catch o 2/15 but that flight probably will be canceled.

They were right at the register at the local home depot near me

Well that happened fast.

It appears to be more infectious but less serious than SARS.

More infectious and more serious than SARS.

How so?

The person who said this is a troll.

Germany actually has four. All were infected by a work colleague who had traveled to Germany from China. She apparently did not show symptoms until after she left Germany. This particular incident has some worried--the fact that she infected four colleagues during a short time frame and that she apparently did so while symptomless.

She SAID she didn't show symptoms. Because she'll lose her job if she said otherwise.
