I had not heard of this term before the BL V JB saga and at first rolled my eyes. However, when I looked up the meaningpopcorn.

ge on Wikipedia : I can see it is an excellent analogy for misusing the internet to create illusions of both positive and negative support for products/ celebrities online.

From wiki
"Astroturfing" on the internet refers to the practice of creating the illusion of widespread public support for a product, policy, or idea by using fake online identities to post positive comments or reviews, essentially making it appear like a grassroots movement when it's actually orchestrated by a single entity, like a company or political group; essentially, "fake grassroots" activity online.
Key points about astroturfing:

Origin of the term:
"Astroturf" is a brand name for artificial grass, so the term implies a fake, manufactured version of genuine public opinion.

How it's done:
Astroturfers often create multiple fake online accounts (sometimes called "sockpuppet" accounts) to post seemingly organic comments or reviews across different platforms, giving the impression of broad public support.

Why it's problematic:
Astroturfing can manipulate public perception by creating a false sense of consensus, potentially influencing people's opinions without them realizing the source of the information

Thanks for this explanation. I never created a fake account on DCUM or the Daily Mail. Many commenter on DM are real people. I think it is hard for some people in entertainment to accept that they don't have a positive image with regular people. They think they can control and manipulate people into liking them because they are used to getting what they want. People either like you or they don't. Period.

DP - I think many of us had no personal opinion on either BL or JB before this blow up.

I still don’t have a personal opinion on them as people because I don’t know them. People either like their work or not - but even then many of us have more nuanced views on movies rather than like or don’t like. I neither loved nor hated the “It ends with us” movie.

I do think that online misogyny is demonstrated as a real phenomenon with far reaching consequences. The JB PR people were able to exploit online misogynistic tendencies to smear her reputation as an actress.

There are no doubt some people such as yourself who simply don’t like her work. She is not one of my favorite actresses but I applaud her and her husband for tackling the smear campaign that followed confronting sexual harassment on the movie set .

My only opinion prior to this was that they were cloying and annoying with their planted stories about trolling each other on social media. Like Ryan would "troll" Blake about her birthday, ha ha. I found it very try hard that they wanted to seem so funny and sexy as a couple and went out of their way "trolling" each other.

What does that have to do with anything? The PP was correct that the abject misogyny in this country try was easy for JV to exploit. And look here. 90+ pages focusing on how people don’t like her. And using that for not believing her.

Shame on all of you.

Because it goes against the idea that people only disliked Blake Lively due to alleged "astroturfing." Oh yes, reality is shameful. People do not have to like celebrities.

So only people you like can be sexually harassed? Everyone else deserves it because you don’t like them?

No my point is that your messiah Blake was not universally loved and admired before this scandal. Her supporters seem to think that everyone loved her and then Baldoni destroyed her reputation. She is welcome to prove her case in court like any other plaintiff.

Except the PR reps did what you vehemently keep denying happened.

OK so the PR reps caused her and Ryan to do snug posts where they "trolled"each other in an effort to show how they are sexy and so happily married. The PR reps also caused them to be Taylor Swift hangers on. The PR reps are terrible

It is his attempt that is being outed here, which is independent of whether he was successful.

Women are allowed to object when their human rights are violated.

(All women, including wives, prostitutes
and students)

She got paid a lot, much more than a prostitute

Your jealousy is really seeping out. She’s rich, has a hot husband, happily married, and is everything you’re not.

OK sure.

I look forward to her proving her case in court. Gonna be better than Depp/Heard. Popcorn.

Except this time the intrigue is the PR shenanigans. Not the stars.

I think that if they make it to court there will be plenty of intrigue.

You really get paid for this? Good grief.

Hell no it's just my opinion

She has a lot of receipts. Get real. This is a slam dunk.

Well that settles it. Why even have the trial.

I mean, it does. Baldoni would be wise to settle.

+1

Hopefully the ego of someone who would engage in this behavior doesn't prevent him from seeing the course of action that would be best for him

Read the posts here. It goes beyond "don't like." And ftr, all of you blathering about not liking her DO NOT KNOW HER. So, there's that.

I don't have any strong feelings on her either way. But, I'm sick of the hate, criticism, and nastiness towards any woman who dares act in a manner that is other than a doormat.

Many PR folks are posting that the crisis comes folks being sued were really stupid to put such terrible stuff in a text...now Blake has the texts.
