There is no evidence that the Duggars handled this issue per those documents.

You have no idea what happened in their household and/or exactly how they handled the situation.

So, yes, this is a smear campaign.

The Duggars are part of ATI/Gothard. That is the ONLY curriculum that is allowed. Also the Duggars have stated exactly how they handled this situation. Try to keep up.

This. And that they are WILLINGLY showcasing their lives on TV. For money. You know, the evil liberal media? Seems to me as though they did pretty well for themselves using the media, until Josh done messed it all up.

The biblical basis for that curriculum does not include children victims. The bible is pretty clear on who it applies to, down to whether a woman was raped while inside the city or outside the city. If you guys were more familiar with the bible, you wouldn't be arguing such nonsense.

okay, do you have the links to the docs that describe how they deal with child sex abuse? I'm guessing that one's not documented, because it's not discussed.

Mark 9:42 is clear. No obscure interpretation needed.

The rape victim blaming is from a passage in Deuteronomy.

Hit enter too soon. Sweeping sex abuse under the rug isn't really unique to fundamentalists. I'm sure it happens, just like it happens in every other facet of society. The Catholics had it down to a science.

I went through a fundamentalist schooling and upbringing. The counseling there is similar to regular counseling, except the person doing the counseling does more talking at you. I saw counseling by different churches and denominations. It has the same variations as regular counseling.

More sponsors are pulling out.

Companies including Ace Hardware, David's Bridal and Pure Leaf Iced Tea announced on social media that they would no longer advertise on the show in the wake of the news that eldest son Josh Duggar had been investigated for child molestation as a teen.

...

General Mills Inc., Payless Shoesource Inc. and Choice Hotels International Inc. have also announced they are removing ads from the series. They join companies including CVS, H&R Block, Jimmy Dean, Pure Leaf Iced Tea, Walgreens ConAgra Foods, Party City, Behr, Ricola and ?Keurig, per multiple reports.

TLC is considering spinning off a new show about the daughters. But what would be the point of that? Watching two couples start families? The draw of the show was watching a family handle all those kids. Two families with babies? Totally normal and boring.

Everyone would want to know if they keep up the circus show or became more mainstream.

Is that family so fucked up that they would do anything to be on TV? TLC should pull the entire cult off. the. air.

mic drop.

Off topic, but does anyone else not want to watch any more shows about gigantic families? TLC is pitching a new show the Willis family with 12 kids. The promo has the mother saying, "When I committed to have 12 kids, I had clue what I was getting into". Did they just drop 12 kids off on her doorstep?

I'm signing off of TLC. They stopped being a "learning" channel a decade ago.

Yes, I think they need to get away from exploiting families.

Indeed. It was easy because all the mothering was pawned off on the four oldest daughters. I'd actually be interested to see how they do it now that half of those are married off. But not interested enough to not want it canceled.

I'm not trying to spread untrue rumors but I've heard men involved in their church were involved in sexual abuse claims (or was it their homeschool curriculum brand?). *this might not be true, interested in reputable links*

This might be far fetched but I'm wondering if maybe Josh was molested by a pastor at church and maybe that's why they left?

anyone?

For those who are curious what the risk factors of sexual assault are as well as what the appropriate response should have been, Salon had this article: http://www.salon.com/2015/05/27/the_real_josh_duggar_outrage_beyond_the_hate_and_hypocrisy_how_this_should_have_been_handled/

It isn't about being Quiverfull, Conservative, or even Liberal. It is about being parents.

I agree and I this is why I am supporting them. I have never made any assumptions that they enabling their son or blamed their daughters or that their religion is to blame. Their statement seemed heartfelt. I think they did the best they could in a very difficult situation. It is so upsetting to me that people are villifying them.

There has been a ton of evidence posted here about how the Duggars handled it and that the very "therapy" they used is based in victim blaming. The document was posted on this thread. Also of course their statement was heartfelt, a publicist wrote it. I worked in public relations - trust me TLC made sure they had the best to soften public sentiment, so less would blow back on the network

I did, too. Why don't you write better?

I always wondered how they explained to the children why it was OK to be in a TV show and make money off a TV show but not OK to watch a TV show or own a TV. Seems illogical to me.
