Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Sorry son, you have to leave all your friends and start high school anew, but don’t worry about the resulting mental depression, the new school has a spiffy name, so it’s basically a wash! |
How are they leaving friends if a bunch of kids who live nearby would also be going there? Surely at least some are friends? |
If it's a new school that no one "owns" yet, and a kid goes there with their entire ES feeder or a significant fraction of their MS it's hard to see why they'd be depressed. |
You don't live in this area. All the kids being zoned to the new HS will be with the same kids they went to ES and MS with. We don't want it to be called Dulles, by the way, most people around here identify Dulles with Loudoun County. |
| I would like for the school to be named after Harriet Tubman but I know the conservatives in western Fairfax County would shoot that down in less than 5 seconds. |
| May I suggest “Ellen Ochoa High School”, the first Hispanic American woman astronaut? |
| Do not name it after a person. Period. |
| Why not just call it "Floris HS" if you don't like "Dulles HS"? Dulles does span across both Fairfax and Loudoun and it's future-proof if they do something special aviation-related at some point. |
| Tech High School since it is on the DC tech corridor. |
No. All high schools in 5his area have geographic names. Oak Hill maybe. Floris. Dulles? |
+1 |
| Fryin Pan High School |
| *Frying Pan |
Tech would be a geographic name. |
Tech sounds like a vocational school. I am all for vocational schools, but this school should be a traditional school. |
