FCPS is turning the new high school purchased to fix crowding into an Aviation magnet school instead of a high school??

Westfield is currently at capacity (2,800 under Scenario 3 and 2,700 under Scenario 4). If these three elementary schools are reassigned to KAA, Westfield's enrollment would probably drop by about 1,000 students or more, leaving Westfield significantly under capacity.

I expect at least one, or possibly two, elementary schools will be moved from Chantilly or Centreville to Westfield.

Maybe Brookfield?

I think Scenario 4 includes the Westfield kids to South Lakes. So, assume no more kids would be needed.

I suspect some, if not all of the Westfield kids moving to South Lakes in Scenario 4 will end up at KAA once the KAA maps come out

Two community meetings coming up in two weeks.

I only ask because it seems like based on the boundary map there's a large portion of Crossfield on the Eastern end that's actually "relatively" close to Oakton. Any thought on if they end up entertaining splitting Crossfield ES between KAA/SLHS and Oakton? I feel like geographically if you sent ALL of Crossfield to KAA/SLHS, you'd end up with 40 minute commutes going from the Eastern end of Crossfield all the way to KAA/SLHS.

Most of Crossfield lives in Franklin Farm and the neighborhoods west of West Ox Rd. A small portion lives in Folkstone, they are still closer to KAA than to Oakton, but I think some of them may have an Oakton address. One neighborhood lives in Reston and they are already zoned to Hughes/South Lakes. So yes, it's possible that they could split Crossfield so that neighborhoods west of West Ox go to KAA and neighborhoods east of West Ox go to South Lakes or remain at Oakton but that seems unlikely. It seems like most board members have removed the "long bus rides to Oakton" from their language about why we need a western high school, so Crossfield is unlikely to get moved to KAA.

I don’t see why all of Crossfield, or any ES for that matter, would or would not have to get moved together. It’s not like all of Crossfield and many other ES’s all go to the same HS anyway. If they can manage to have KAA be made up of kids from only two middle schools (Carson and Franklin) that would be pretty good. Simplest way to do that is to take some of the ES kids from the edges of other HS maps that are already zoned (or could easily be moved) to one of those middle schools.

Huh? You mean a street or two from cohesive neighborhoods? Sure, Jan.

Moving kids from just two middle schools, such as Carson and Franklin would be too simple for FCPS.

SB meeting scheduled on October 23. Will they have a map for KAA by then?

Doubtful. It would make sense, though. Usually with a new school opening they have community discussions.

Naming meeting on October 27th. Can we just say it’s Dulles High School with the mascot/team name of the “Jets” and skip the meetings?

New to this conversation - when will map of new HS boundaries come out?

Cool. But, remember a few years ago they were discussing changing the name of Dulles--because of something he did--and I cannot remember what.

But, I think it is a great idea. I would vote for that if I had a vote. It identifies the area and has some sparkle.

I like it. Better than naming it after some old superintendent.

Too close to Westfield. But. otherwise fine. I like PP's Dulles Jets. It's different.

Dulles HS is nice. Carson HS is fine. McLearen HS would be OK. The name doesn't matter that much, especially for a neighborhood HS.

Western is too close to Westfield, but West County might work.

Agree. I thought about McLearen, too. Wonder who McLearen was?

Making it a cool team name like that might make the first class of kids more excited to go there.
