Charlie Kirk shot at Utah Valley University

I don’t think it’s about either party, really, but indicative of disgust with a political system that appears to mostly favor billionaires and does not respond to the needs of most people. People feel powerless and that they have nothing to lose. It is like the 1960’s again but the outcome is still unclear.

You forgot January 6th.

If the murders of innocent children and the aftermath was shown, the impact would be overwhelming and maybe then, gun laws would the change.

I actually think this is it. I do actually believe that if we saw the actual bodies or the actual act at sandy hook, uvalde, etc that we would be compelled to act. I have to have that faith in humanity.

There have been quite a few politically motivated attacks in the last decade.

Here’s a partial list of attacks since 2020:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/the-growing-list-of-political-violence-in-the-u-s

It omits the shootings that left federal Judge Esther Salas’s son dead and husband critically injured and the bombs planted at the DNC Headquarters on J6.

There was also a right winger who parked a truck of explosives by the Capitol on J6

Cite? I have never heard of this.

+1 I fear the direction this is headed down

Can you history buffs provide us with a little more context?

Hitler used a false flag exercise to garner sympathy and justify stormtroopers taking control of Germany. History is truly repeating itself. but instead of "jews" the bogeyman is immigrants, liberals etc...pretty much anyone not a straight, white christian male.

Charlie wasn’t a candidate for public office.

Charlie wasn’t a corporate executive, supposedly personally “responsible” for any negative effects of corporate policies.

Charlie wasn’t a foreign diplomat or staff to whom blame for that foreign nation’s policies could be ascribed.

No, Charlie was an advocate for his faith and his political beliefs, as well as for open and cordial debate about both. This was a political assassination at its most basic core - not because someone was angry about a policy that Charlie had enacted, or that he was currently facilitating, or that he might in the future implement - but rather for no other reason than the public expression of his ideas. He was shot because of his discussions about his beliefs and for no other reason; and that should be a wake up call for all of us, right and left.

This will not end well.

He had a large influence on a lot of people, and was said to give advice to Trump. Anyone with that kind of influence can be a target.

This sounds unlikely.

Trying to find out if he was included in Trump’s pardons.

That would be convenient for those pushing a narrative about what type of person is responsible, e.g. Trump and every right wing pundit.

This rhetoric is stoking political violence. People might ask themselves why it’s always the conservative right who does this. What do they gain from having you hate Democrats?

before we even know the identity of Charlie Kirk's shooter, Joni Ernst blames "the left" for "silencing voices through violence"

I love the way MAGA is jumping to these conclusions with ZERO proof or knowledge of who the shooter was/is and what their motivation is.

So yes, let's just blame the left and get every "second amendment friend" riled up for retribution.

(and then we will find out if was some mentally ill white guy with a gun who was mad at Kirk for dropping Epstein from the rotation of outrage, or something similar)

I am old enough to remember a white supremecists gunning down black parishioners in a church and a black president advising the country to hold their outrage until the shooter had their day in court.

Why does the right have no similar grace?
