Head of School at National Child Research Center (NCRC) - Arrest warrant issued

Who else did JC hire while he was there. The “mindful movement” guy? The director of the summer program? Both men.

My daughter had both of these teachers at NCRC on a teaching team, and it was one of the best years of her education. She learned and grew as a person in incredible ways, and our family remains so grateful to them for that unbelievably wonderful year. She has since gone on to have more male teachers than female teachers in her following years at a different school, and they have all been fantastic.

The two men you mentioned are salt of the earth human beings who care so much about education and the community. We are so lucky to have them teaching our kids. How dare you call out these people you don’t know? It is harmful to them and harmful to male teachers more broadly, not to mention incredibly uninformed and sexist.

For the record—James Carroll did not do any hiring. Find a forum where you actually know something about the topic and participate there, but leave our wonderful NCRC teachers alone. Wonderful post. Thanks. I’ve been one of the advocates here for men being needed in the field of early education.

Happy to hear the enthusiastic and positive feedback about the male teachers at NCRC. Unfortunately, there will be a lot of scrutiny on all the individuals who work there because of this incident, but I have no doubt the good people will continue to shine.

Thank you. We also know both of these teachers and agree with your sentiments. They are exactly as caring as you describe. An anonymous poster trying to call out hardworking teachers who have done nothing wrong is totally unacceptable. All these teachers have done “wrong” is have the misfortune of working at NCRC at the same time as JC. That is not their fault. Anyone trying to put any blame or suggest anything about these teachers is cruel and extremely uninformed.

When a preschooler needs help with toileting, are your male teachers allowed to help?

Anyone?

I’d assume so as we don’t treat teachers, men or women, as pedophiles based on their gender.

To male preschool and elementary school teachers: Thank you. My children, both a son and a daughter, valued tremendously having both male and female teachers in preschool and elementary school and beyond. In my view, it helped my son to have male role models in the classroom, and for both of my children to see and experience gender balance. More importantly, my kids have had extraordinary teachers, both men and women, who have supported our kids in becoming the kind, community-oriented and engaged high schoolers and adults they are today. Thank you, males and females alike. And I am so sorry for the excellent male teachers who are being grouped together with horrific child abusers. I can’t imagine if I had worked as hard as I know you do only to be treated as presumptive pedophiles.

And to anyone concerned about the feminization of education, consider that your child’s understanding of gender norms are set at a very young age. I am a high functioning woman in a predominantly male field, and I’m perfectly comfortable with that. Had I been a presumptive pedophile, though, I think I would have chosen a different path (as I would assume everyone I know).

So how about we seek better oversight/processes/checks, and if needed more direct oversight (filmed classrooms for students at young ages) rather than bring out the pitchforks against men teachers?

It’s worth noting NCRC already has cameras in its classrooms, the bathroom doors are always open so no one can hide in there, there are three teachers in each classroom which means teachers being alone with a student is rare, they do all the background checks and required sexual abuse trainings. What if these measures actually have worked and prevented Carroll from harming any children at NCRC? No, it didn’t stop him being hired as he had no criminal history to be flagged and seemed to have the required skills for the job. But if there is currently no evidence he carried out any abuse in person, it seems these measures may have helped in preventing him from physically abusing kids at NCRC. I hope that continues to be the case as they move through the prosecution and investigations.

We all share that hope.

I hope the 2 young boys in the photo are identified and helped, too.

LOL all but like 3 went to private from my DDs graduating class from NCRC. It's why you go to NCRC is to get into a good private.

Maybe, but I think some people pay for private preschool and kindergarten because they don’t like the public options but then they go onto public elementary

Most people at NCRC chose the school because it is a great school but also for its outplacement. That is true for a handful of schools in the DC area, and they are very competitive to get into because of this. It is true that most kids at NCRC are probably going to move onto a small group of private schools in the DC area. A handful of kids may go to public schools but it’s not going to be the majority, it’s just not why people go there.

1/4 kids went to public school after NCRC when our kids were there a few years ago.

Let’s hope those were AI generated.

Just to level set-- this is a preschool. The kids are 2-5. Most people would say the preschool. they send their child to is amazing. That is what is special about these years. But to say/think that somehow NCRC is unique is magical thinking. There are a lot of growth and schools and kids at schools all over the place after preschool. There is definitely a vibe from the NCRC parents that this is a unique place which makes me wonder if they put their guard down.

What is the story behind the Richmond woman that people keep referring to?

What this monster did to those closest to him is sick. I pray that nobody close to him had any reason to have concerns. Otherwise, I don’t know how they are able to get through the day without questioning themselves.

Some do make it sound like a cult for little kids. Well actually for parents too. No blaming but when you are in a cult many don't know it.
