Official TJ Admissions Decisions Results for the Class of 2025

I know three families in our Western County neighborhood that rented a 1 Br. Apartment in the Herndon MS district for next year and changed the mom and kids residency on paper. Kids will sleep in their own beds and someone will check the mail a couple of times a week. At least one also plans to self id as “mixed race” (mixture of two different subsets of Indians, which cracks me up). And in another case, the kid’s case even found an MD who gave him a neuropsych diagnosis because his parents wrote a check. The parents requested and got an iEP this spring. The parent figure this will help with standardized testing down the line.

And instead of an Indian kid from Carson who stands no chance, suddenly they have a mixed race kid with an IEP from Herndon.

I’ve even heard speculation from parents with SAHMs about parents officially separating for a few months so the kid can qualify as FARMs.

None of their rising 8th graders have been in the Carson building this year anyway so they don’t care that much about switching schools. And, the parents believe that it’s an easy path to TJ. It looks like they are right. They’ll take turns carpooling and do a lot of supplementing, AOPS, etc. at home. And, they have already signed up for one of those Asian style after school schools. They think think it’s a much easier path to TJ than staying at Carson. It’s smart. And since the system is going out of its way to screw over AAPIs who sacrificed to buy into good school Districts, more power to them.

One of these three sets of parents mentioned that a group at their mosque is doing basically the same thing, except in their case it’s RRMS with a temporary transfer to South County.

One thing all these parents have in common? They are donating and organizing for Glen Younkin. I think VA may really flip red this year.

This kind of behavior is why the admission process was changed.

Or, perhaps, why it shouldn't have been changed the way it was.

Ya, it's amazing the lengths people will go to game admissions.

They happened at the same time. FCPS released the admissions statistics for the Class of 2024 on June 1. It would usually be a little earlier but for COVID-19 keeping staff out of the office.

That release, and the "TS" for black students which had been speculated to be zero, was the impetus for the most recent attempts at admissions reform. TJ has been trying to reform its admissions process for over 20 years at this point.

Again, this is remarkable. TJ admissions is trying to create geographic diversity, and these parents think that the admissions committee isn't going to notice that the kid went to Rocky Run in 7th grade and South County in 8th grade when those are the two sets of transcripts that were used. To me, this is one of the easiest ways to ensure that you DON'T get admitted. It's a giant red flag screaming "we're trying to game the admissions process!!!"

+1000. There are going to be a LOT of disappointed families that have jumped through hoops only to find out that they did it for nothing and screwed their kids in the process. There will still be plenty of Indian kids from Carson and Rocky Run that get in - it'll just be significantly fewer than it was before. The idea that you're somehow better off completely uprooting your kids from a school that's likely to have 40-50 admits to try to nail down a spot at a school that will have 6-8 (and where, believe it or not, there already exist some strong students) is just insane.

OTOH... do they actually care deeper than "look at our diversity"?

Harvard wasn't particularly interested in checking Elizabeth Warren's ancestry.

TJ is turning out to be a fabulous experience as we have already completed week 1. Nothing but positive things to say about the principal, teachers and curriculum!

And the environment already seems much healthier than years past.

That's exactly what DC said too!

What dog whistles! Shameful comments.
My god, do you guys even realize how racist you guys are.
It is funny how so many holier than thou folks are the most prejudiced.

And how did you compare with previous years? Your kids started at TJ twice? Come on. You are just not so bright racist trolls making things up with imaginary children in TJ

Probably their kid is....I don't know, a junior? It's funny, they do go for four years.

So.... it's not shameful or a dog whistle to mention that the environment seems healthier if it does.

It's a little silly though, speaking as a deeply pro-reform advocate, to make any judgments about the environment during the first couple of weeks of school. Let's take a look and see how things are during APs in a couple of years, or college application season when the new class is seniors before we make any pronouncements. TJ becomes its most problematic at times when the students and parents are overstressing about outcomes.

Our DC said the same thing. It's as if the school was reborn.

So can you or your children elaborate? What did they see in one week that makes it seem healthier?
