Official Brett Kavanaugh Thread, Part 3

There were several noticeable differences between the Senate testimony of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and the woman accusing him of sexual assault, Christine Blasey Ford.

The most obvious was the tone each took. Ford was polite and quiet in recounting her accusation against Kavanaugh; he was angry and loud in his denials of the allegations against him.

Beyond the style of their testimonies, there was a striking difference in the content of their words. Both Ford and Kavanaugh fielded questions from senators and the prosecutor hired by Republicans, Rachel Mitchell.

But only Ford made an effort to answer every single question.

Kavanaugh actively dodged questions. He often repeated the same non-answer over and over. Other times, he insisted on answering a question with “context” — which inevitably was a long story about his childhood — but never actually answered the question.

We went through the transcript of the hearing and noted every single time a question was asked of Ford and Kavanaugh. (We didn’t include the times a questioner didn’t ask an explicit question.) Then we noted every instance in which answered the question or said they didn’t know the answer — and we also noted every time they either refused to answer or gave an answer that didn’t address the question. Here are the results:

I love internet. So this article documents the actual transcript in a format you can visually tell the kind of testimony CBF and BK provided. Someone would "love beer" a lot tonight!

Listen, I think he represented himself poorly yesterday just as much as anyone else. But I feel this isn’t a fair comparison. She was not questioned about HER drinking, high school yearbook, or anything else other than directly relevant to her accusation. He was openly mocked and ridiculed with questions that frankly would be an embarrassment to anyone. They also bullied him into dragging people like Renate through the mud.
I have a high level security clearance and have gone through many background investigations - I too would be frightened and deflect if someone were demeaning my entire character based on silly sayings in my yearbook
and the fact that I liked to drink when I was younger.

I have a hard time believing you. I have a TS and was asked all sorts of questions - did I ever sell my body for sex was one I recall. If that was my yearbook, I would explain it honestly. Spare me the false outrage about dragging Renate through the mud - the only person who did that was Brett Kavanaugh, Mark Judge and every other man who wrote RenateAlumnius. What happened to the party of personal responsibility?

I really think it’s dangerous for his mental stability if he doesn’t.

Oh FFS. He is perfectly stable and you know it.
Now if you want to talk about Dr Ford’s mental stability......

He was ranting. Raving. Evaded questions. She did none of that.

You’re a liar.

I suspect if you had the heinous false allegations brought against you, your demeanor would be quite different than your usual “pleasant” self. He was defending his name, his integrity and his livelihood. I thought he should restraint, given the circumstances.

Ha ha ha restraint?
He looked like a bloated petulant brat and now the whole world knows he has a drinking problem too.

Brett Kavanaugh's tears yesterday were those of a True American Patriot. A man who Loves This Land and is unafraid to show it and, get this!, unafraid to embrace his femininity, if that is what it takes. What liberals call his "lies" may in fact just be that he has his Eyes on The Prize. When Mr Kavanaugh sat there crying at the table, he showed he is truly Able to service President Trump is all ways. When will we embrace this saintly servant?

And by the way, if you would deflect, you DON"T deserve a clearance. Anyone knows why they ask these things. Blackmail. If you and Brett can't own up to your high school yearbook, step aside for real public servants who know what sacrifice means.

Many, many people disagree with you. Here on DCUM, on Twitter, on TV, on other platforms, etc. His behavior was inexcusable yesterday because it was so un-necesssarily aggressive and partisan.
For a job interview where the job description is to be *impartial*.
Let me remind you that some FBI agents were fired recently in the wake of the Mueller investigation for discreetly expressing their political views!!! The Republicans bayed for their blood.
Kavanaugh, straining for the highest judgeship in the land, should be held to the same, or even higher, standards.
His speech alone disqualified him absolutely. He is unfit.

He's lying about something.
She is telling the truth.
She was likely a mousey un popular girl of so so intelligence trying to hang out with much smarter, popular, domineering boys. Things got out of control, and she never forgot it. They forgot it soon after.
Most popular people NEVER remember the other folks. You see them two years later in the grocery store and they don't know who you were.

Too bad Kavanaugh has not been nominated to service Trump. Had he been, I suspect he would get little complaint from the left.

I don't know him. I don't want to get caught up in this mess. I have friends who are both Republican and Democratic and don't want to lose any. But I would tell them that her story was similar three years ago.

I believe you should contact the FBI, who is working on all *credible* allegations that have been made recently. It might change everything, since they may not have been considering this particular case to be credible. With your recollection of what she said, this might tip the balance. The FBI will not trot you out on TV.

Can anyone tell us if a witness's name is published during an FBI investigation?

I think you should contact the FBI as well. I think they do confidential statements. That is what was said *should* have happened with Dr. Ford. Graham and company were not willing to call in the FBI so that wasn't an option to her.

Really appreciate you making this effort. Good luck and hopefully all goes well with getting them the info they need.

I was being told that I didn't understand how things work and that the FBI would never investigate this because the alleged assault didn't occur on federal property and neither the alleged victim or perpetrator were federal employees.

In fact, when I wrote this post which predicted exactly the type of hearing that was eventually held:

http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/753686.page

I was repeatedly told that I the FBI could not investigate and given a bunch of different reasons why not. I'm ashamed of my ignorance.

To be fair, it's not an investigation in the way that people tend to think about criminal FBI investigations. It's a background investigation in which the FBI will take statements from individuals and present them to the Senate. They don't come to a conclusion. An FBI criminal investigation is predicated on a federal criminal act the FBI concludes has taken place that the FBI is attempting to prove beyond a reasonable doubt with supporting evidence that is presented to a prosecutor.

I think that is all most people expected. The precedents were Thomas and Tower. Those were background investigations as well.

And if they find nothing, will you accept it?

Who really thinks that this BS calling for a FBI investigation will change anything.

So if the FBI clears him, then it will be we can’t vote for him cuz abortion, gun laws, etc.. it will then be another set off issues.

How exactly would the FBI “clear” him? Not turning up anything new would surprise no one, and wouldn’t mean that he has been proven innocent.

He's presumed innocent unless proven otherwise. And I know....I know....it's not a trial, but the same principle applies: you can't prove a negative.

SHE has to prove that he's guilty, not the other way around.

Huh? She does not have to prove anything. She just has to be truthful. Even Republicans found her credible.

So are you saying that an allegation, even if the person making it sounds credible, is sufficient to ruin someone’s career? Do you realize what that opens the door for? She essentially has no corroborating evidence, and the people she identified as being in a position to support her accusation either denied knowledge or outright refuted it. I can’t understand how so many are willing to destroy this guy (or anyone) over an unsubstantiated allegation. I guess I do understand - you hate his politics and/or the person who nominated him.

What? Whose career is getting ruined, exactly? Cavanaugh has a lifetime judgeship, just not at the court he wants. You make it sound like he's about to go panhandle at the corner of 18th and K. He was fine before this nomination and he'll be fine after it. His children will retain their well fed look, I assure you.

That's what liberals tell themselves to assuage their guilt for destroying a man.

psssssst! Jeff!

that post you're replying to was meant as satire. It's not a real Kavanaugh supporter.
