Loudoun is more like $2500 tops for that level, including the team/tournament fee and uniform. Only Loudoun very top teams in the middle age groups are in the neighborhood of what Barca charges for anyone (ODSL or otherwise). Barca price is not “out the door” it’s comparable to just club fee and tournament fee at Loudoun, specifically. These aren’t car dealerships, but “out the door” would include unis and travel costs. Also, Loudoun is one of the worst area examples for pricing because they are higher $$ than the average, smaller club in the area. Some are closer to $2k or below for the same level of soccer re:ODSL. |
| CYA charges $1900 for their A team (Virginia NPL) and $1700 for their B teams (NCSL). |
| $2000 or $3000 a year is just not a lot of money to many people in Loudoun and surrounding areas. It’s just not. Many will pay that much for a few weeks or a month of summer camp, or any number of other activities, iPhones, etc. The prices are market driven and in this market it’s reasonable |
This is true if you are trying to assemble the best "payers" from the greater DC area, but it is not true if you are trying to assemble the best players. $3000 is a lot of money especially if the family has multiple kids that want to play soccer. |
Shouldn't have multiple kids |
Let’s be honest: Assembling the best payers is absolutely the goal of every club. Even the so called not for profit clubs are still trying to make enough to sustain themselves, and competition with other clubs in the area necessitates paying for fields, coaches, and so forth. Until we have top caliber fields and coaches available for free, it’s always going to be market driven. Paying for multiple kids is well within the means of plenty in this area. Families send multiple kids to expensive camps and buy iPhones for all their kids. Yes this is a shame for developing the best soccer players in the area. Many clubs in the area do have scholarship programs for some players who can’t afford it, including Barca, but the player needs to be very good. Welcome to a high cost of living area. |
I agree that it all clubs use pay-to-play model and assembling the most talented kids is the goal of most clubs. However, the cost of the program is a factor in recruitment. If a talented kid gets an offer from a club that charges $2,000 per year and an offer from another club that charges over $3,000 per year for an equivalent level team and both clubs offer good quality coaching, most parents will go with the club that saves them $1,000. Barca does a lot of things well, but they are on the expensive side of the market, so it is harder for them to compete for top level players, who may have multiple options. I have no doubt that Barca will be able to fill rosters on most of its teams even at its current price point, but they might have to sacrifice some talent quality. |
| Barca won a tournament today! |
| That is because Barca Academy simply provides the year-round version of the overpriced summer camp experience for people willing to pay for it. |
Nah, you are taking it too far. Barca may have some teams that are uneven in talent that you could compare to the summer camp crowd, but they also have some quality teams, which are ranked in the top 20 in the state. |
Because gotsoccer rankings matter... |
This comment is worse than stupid: it's bad-faith. Take that BS elsewhere. Everyone knows that any ranking isn't the be-all, end-all of anything. But you don't get points in any system without winning. If you want to keep playing your juvenile game, let's try this: "Because winning matters..." |
DA teams aren’t even counted in the rankings. EDP sponsored events give exorbitant points. Not juvenile, just the truth. Barca is a money grab and marketing/branding device. Winning does matter. Rankings based on tournament points that don’t include the best boys players and teams do not matter though. |
By your standards, there is no soccer beyond DA teams. Any pay-to-play program is a money grab. EDP gives a lot of points, because there are strong teams playing in the league, including DA teams (although they have their own division since DA doesn't like playing against outside competition). |
DA does not play in EDP. DA Club B teams play in EDP though here and DA club B teams play in other leagues elsewhere. These are the most ignorance based rants. |
