I saw this differently. Trump was in shock over what happened as anyone would be. His fist—at great risk to himself and SS—assured his crowd right then and there that he was ok and not killed. He is a leader type to be thinking of others at such a moment.

Ignore the trolls who claim it was just a publicity stunt to be shot at with live rounds such that Trump was literally an inch from death. I am stunned he came so close to assassination and how SS could let this happen.

Let's not pretend that Trump thinks about others (beyond what he can con them out of). He's 100% about himself at all times.

It's good he did it. People recover from violence related trauma easier when they see immediate examples of strength and bravery. If he stayed down, the national response, especially on the right, would have been much more enraged. This way, people feel resolute and galvanized, versus attacked and cornered. You can clearly hear the SS saying the shooter has been neutralized before he gets up. You can also hear him asking for his shoes.

I am PP, who posted that I would be covering the incident. I did not know they said that, and he knew the shooter was not a threat anymore. It makes sense now that he has gotten up.

He put secret service lives in jeopardy to be a selfish idiot who cared more about his shoes.

The Secret Service would not have pulled Trump to his feet and moved him to the vehicle if they had not received the all clear message. They were taking Trump off stage and he asked them to stop for a moment to get his shoes. Trump was not putting them in danger. The shooter had put everyone in danger, and had been killed.

The Secret Service protect the office of the president with their life if necessary, no matter who is elected president.
