It doesn’t sound like this guy had any priors. |
+2 though I can’t even have sympathy for him. This is the world he wanted, remember? • in 2016, Trump essentially suggested “2nd Amendment solutions” as a response to Hillary Clinton’s existence. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2016/08/09/opinions/trump-second-amendment-falsehoods-dantonio • in 2020 Trump shared a video saying “the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat.” https://www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/president-trump-shares-video-of-supporter-saying-the-only-good-democrat-is-a-dead-democrat/ • in January of this year Trump’s legal team argued that a president could assassinate his political rivals https://thehill.com/regulation/court-battles/4398223-trump-team-argues-assassination-of-rivals-is-covered-by-presidential-immunity/mlite/?nxs-test=mlite This is the world he wanted and made. My sympathy for him is minimal. |
I completely agree. |
This rejoinder is reasonably compelling when there is a mass shooting in a school or something. But this guy tried to assassinate the leading candidate for the presidency; the notion that he would have been dissuaded by the inconvenience of buying a gun on the black market is just ludicrous. ("Professor, why didn't Franz Josef just implement common-sense gun reform?") |
President Trump on Thursday retweeted a video of a supporter saying that the "only good Democrat is a dead Democrat." The man in the video is a New Mexico politician who faced calls to resign after making the remark earlier this month. Mr. Trump at midnight retweeted a video from Cowboys For Trump featuring the group's founder, Couy Griffin, who is also the Otero County commissioner. The clip shows Griffin speaking to a crowd of supporters. "I've come to a place where I've come to the conclusion that the only good Democrat is a dead Democrat," Griffin says in the first seconds of the clip, drawing cheers and applause. "I don't say that in the physical sense, and I can already see where the videos getting edited where it says I want to go murder Democrats," Griffin continues. "No. I say that in the political sense because the Democrat agenda and policy is anti-American right now." -Couy Griffin, Otero County commissioner. |
If I was shot in the face I would hope no one would Monday Morning Quarterback my defiant reactions. You sound like a total coward tbh. |
One of the little bits of information that suggests maybe not all is as it seems. The last time he thought he was being shot at he froze. It is possible that as his dementia has continued to develop, he may be losing those inhibitions. And of course the fact that he was able to stop his USSS team and argue does not say good things about their relationship. |
+1. Also, I'm tired of gun control being presented as a panacea. It could be part of a more comprehensive solution. But it's not "easy" to confiscate guns as a pp said-- and it isn't a substitute for harsh criminal penalties. |
Trump always prioritizes a photo op. |
Omg we used to have stricter gun laws and guess what? We did not have mass shootings. |
They would if they were old school republican disgusted with the behavior of Trump and his supporters that has taken over the party. Think back to January 2021, plenty of Republicans who were turning blue. |
| The place was filled with officers with guns, inside and outside the perimeter. Yet when ordinary unarmed citizens were screaming at the cops about this guy bear crawling up the building with a rifle, there was no real reaction from cops/SS. And it wasn’t quick, it was minutes. How the perp managed to squeeze off five or six rounds before one brave officer reacted is beyond me. |
I saw this differently. Trump was in shock over what happened as anyone would be. His fist—at great risk to himself and SS—assured his crowd right then and there that he was ok and not killed. He is a leader type to be thinking of others at such a moment. Ignore the trolls who claim it was just a publicity stunt to be shot at with live rounds such that Trump was literally an inch from death. I am stunned he came so close to assassination and how SS could let this happen. |
He was a 17 year old school republican? |
