Shots fired at Trump rally

I am glad he’s ok. I am a for gun control and against violence of all kinds. But this event was a loss of life for at least one innocent person and the reason it wasn’t worse was because of the actions of a group of highly trained professionals- not Trump.

He pumped his fist after the shooter was killed. SS knew he was dead because they got an “All Clear” before moving Trump. You know this, so stop gaslighting us and condemning a man for bravely letting his supporters know he’s okay after getting shot in the face. You’re just scolding him to deflect from your deep shame and cowardice.

He was also probably feeling good that he got his shoe back.

Rand Paul says hello

No elected official made fun of Rand Paul. The internet is a vast wasteland of horrible people saying horrible things. Trump made fun of Pelosi being attacked.

Clearly now, after details emerged and learning of the tragic deaths and injuries to bystanders, I don’t believe it was staged but rather that it’s an awful, unacceptable event in American politics.

I will never vote for Trump. But I can have sympathy for him after this. I don’t want to see him assassinated. I just don’t want him leading our country. I want him to retire to his golf course at Mar-a-Lago and leave our country alone.

I’m certainly not a crazy, irrational leftist. I’m a DC area mom worried about the future for my kids. I don’t trust anything from Trump. So the posts on here questioning whether this was real are not all crazy trolls. It shows we don’t believe anything out of Trump until corroborated by legitimate news services. He’s a liar and a terrible human. But he shouldn’t be assassinated.

Yes, all of this.

+1. Also the notion that it could have been staged doesn’t seem likely given the age and background of the perpetrator, and that random people in the audience also were shot.

As for the fist pump, I think we never know how we’ll react in a crisis until it actually happens. He’s been gearing up for re-election for four years, so his reaction seems within the realm of realistic under these circumstances.

Why did he take his shoes off?

It is well known that people register as the opposite party to vote in states that have closed primaries to try to influence the vote for or against candidates.

Donating to Act Blue on Biden’s inauguration day is not something a republican would do.

PA has closed primaries.

Just like he stood on the WH balcony and ripped the mask away from his face, trump is a showman.

So are conservatives warming to gun control?

He got knocked out of them when the SS took him to the ground to protect him.

Yeah, but he registered as a Republican after that.

So he could vote against Trump in the primary.

He registered as a republican in September 2021. The PA primary was April 2024, 2 and a half years later. Seems very unlikely.

For the record, there are Republicans who don't support Trump. At some point we may stop calling ourselves Republican, shift to Independent, form a new party - but I'm a Republican who voted for Mitt Romney (and still think he would have been one of our greatest Presidents) and did not vote for Trump.

It’s so rare to hear from an old-school Republican on this forum (which mostly has MAGA types representing the right). Almost like hearing from an old friend you haven’t seen in a while. Can I ask how you plan to vote in November? Has this incident changed your mind at all?

The SS knows there’s a chance of a second shooter or a coordinated attack which is why they are covering him with their bodies and trying to remove him from the scene. No one thought oh we are all good here, let’s get the rally going again. They are literally being used as human shields and he’s fighting them for a photo op. And people like it. Insane.

To vote against Trump in the primary, most likely

He registered R in 2021 before Trump even announced he was running. How could he have done it to vote against trump in a primary almost 3 years later?

Pennsylvania is a “closed primary” state. In order to vote in the primary election, voters must be registered with a political party. Unaffiliated or independent voters are not able to participate in the primary.

The shooter, who donated to Act Blue, registered as a republican to vote in PA republican primacies up and down ballot.

Or he registered republican because he’s a republican.

We can go with that, but it really undercuts the "cult leader" argument, that Rs are all brainwashed and want King Trump to make women wear red outfits with white bonnets.

We have been saying MAGA is a cult.

Lots of conservatives want gun control. Not zero guns, but control, background checks, waiting periods, safety training etc. sure .
