| My hearts go out to the families and friends of those onboard. I think there is no longer any hope that they will be found alive. Those onboard knew the risks and chose them, although my head hurts for the son who may not have had enough life experience or frontal cortex development to make a truly informed decision. In any event, I can hope the surviving relatives and friends find peace in the coming days and months. |
I am, too. When they travel, I doubt they choose to stay at a Super 8. When time came to go 13,000 feet down, they chose the Super 8 of submersibles. For people who probably buy the best and expect quality, I'm surprised they would choose this provider. |
I wondered the same thing. Did someone want one or more of these people dead? If so, quite a way to do it. |
CO2 causes fatigue, but it’s not a comfortable sedative like carbon monoxide. CO2 is what causes our body’s homeostatic system to experience “air hunger”. It’s the reason why you shouldn’t swim under water by yourself. Shallow water blackout is the term for when you exhale co2, so you don’t experience air hunger and don’t realize that you are running out of o2. I don’t know if the sub has a mechanism for getting rid of condensation. Imagine 5 people sitting in a car or tent for 72 hours. Everyone would be wet from the condensation from exhalations. And cold from the environment. CO2 is heavier than air, so it would collect at the bottom, so they would need to keep their heads as high as possible. Unless the vessel is rolling around. If they survived until now, they are not comfortably curled up, resting. |
The airplane pilot, Pakistani businessman, and his son were tourists. The CEO and Titanic expert were scientists/experts/explorers or whatever. |
Incorrect. They were Mission Specialists. |
Two opposite things can be true at the same time. Of course most people feel bad for their terror, death, loss. And SMDH at the foolhardy, arrogant, wasteful indulgence. It's like seeing some idiot in a million dollar car driving like a jerk and then having a fender bender. Wasteful indulgence confirms owner stupidity. And what is it they say? Every billionaire is a libertarian until they need a billion dollar search and rescue effort. |
Having spent my formative years in the company of many wealthy, privileged extreme rock/mountain climber-sail boat racing - scuba diving bros, there's often a sociopathic leader daring everyone along shaming others to go beyond the limits of safety. Unfortunately, it's part of the culture. |
After reading about this submarine, and knowing that they not only went voluntarily, but that they paid 250k to do it, anyone who wanted them dead could have just waited. |
I hope they had a stellar view of the Titanic as they sat there. At least get their moneys worth of view time. |
Doubtful. One look at my checking account balance and they'd volunteer to be back on Titan. |
I’ll bet they never even found it. |
What are they discovering that hasn't already been seen/done? Even that submersible vehicle has made multiple previous trips to the Titanic. |

I hope you’re being sarcastic. |
